Project Summary

Trends reflect the needs of young people, so good knowledge of trends can answer the question what is important in youngsters’ lives and what they lack in their lives. Trends are being monitored mostly by marketing companies. Through this project, based on cross-sectoral cooperation, we want to transfer the practice of trendwatching to the youth work. The purpose of the project is to improve the development of youth policy measures at various levels by raising awareness of the current needs of young people, developing competencies in capturing and analyzing trends, improving cooperation between policy makers and youth workers.

The objective of the project is to learn how to capture and identify new youth trends in the Slovak context, to raise awareness of new trends of Slovak youth among actors in the field of youth work through the dissemination of information as a basis for youth policy and youth work that is evidence based. Our objective is to improve both the youth policy and youth work through data-based recommendations.

The initial activity of the project is a basic trendwatching training, during which we will also conduct interviews with young people, from which we will obtain data that we will later analyze. From these data, we identify the trends and their manifestations whose presence among Slovak youngsters will be verified through a network of cooperating organizations. Findings from the survey will be processed into a freely available publication. In the next phase of the project we will focus on how to work with trends and how to respond to them. We will create a handbook containing recommendations for measures for youth workers and politicians.
