Project Summary

Title: “United by Mythology”
Context: The association arises from the need for partner centres to increase the students’ interest in Humanities and Social Sciences studies, in addition to expanding the European and international dimension of the centres. The genesis is in the excellent prior collaboration in eTwinning and strategic partnership projects between two of the partner centres, IES Alfonso VIII (Cuenca, Spain) and Vimmerby Gymnasium (Vimmerby, Sweden). “Heritage Stories” (ID 180519), “United for European Heritage” (ID 181113) and specifically in one of the workshops of the strategic association called “Nordic Mythology” included in the 2018-1-ES01-KA229-050660 project.
To implement the central objective of this project focused on the investigation of the Indo-European origin of the European cultural heritage connecting Latin mythology with Nordic mythology, the association invited the Liceo Classico Statale Carlo Botta (Ivrea, Italy), expert in studies of Latin mythology. The intention is that the participants appreciate the social and educational value of the European tradition and culture, which is a heritage that Europeans must preserve and respect.
Objectives: This project, among its main objectives, seeks to improve the key competences and linguistic communication in English and Spanish of the participants, since these languages are taught in the three centres, as well as awakening the interest in the study of other European languages, like Swedish and Italian. English and Spanish are used in an integrated way in all the activities of the project.
The participation of the teaching staff in this project will motivate the introduction of innovative teaching methods, in search of cooperation, collaboration and teamwork that will help to develop the soft skills in the students, which are necessary for the development of the entrepreneurial spirit in the participants by having to create and present original and innovative products on mythology.
This project aims to make sustainable a new activity for partners, which is a long-term mobility for study reasons, laying the necessary foundations and agreements to continue carrying out this activity after the project.
The project includes the following learning and training activities:
– Three short-term exchanges (5 days) with 10 students (15-18 years), from each educational centre and two accompanying teachers. Two of the meetings would take place during the first year and one during the second year of the project (Year 1: Meetings in Spain and Italy; Year 2: Meeting in Sweden). Each centre will host a meeting. Students benefiting from mobility will have to host a student when the meeting takes place at their centre.
– Twelve long-term mobility for students between 15 and 18 years old. In the second year of the project, each centre will send two students to study for two months of the first term at each of the partner centres. These mobilities will coincide in time, thus facilitating that the four coincident students in each centre will be able to develop project activities, designed for them, with the local students.
Methodology:
The methodology will be active and collaborative making use of the eTwinning platform as the main tool for online work, communication, coordination and dissemination. Follow-up meetings will be organized periodically through videoconferences, in addition to the initial and final ones. This will allow redirecting the situation when the partial results are not as expected. Attentive listening, coordination, agreement, transparency and integration of the contributions of the partners will be the working principles of the project.
The expected results are the workshops hold on mythology during the short meetings. Some are born with the idea of remaining in the cultural or complementary life of the centres, such as the international reading club, the creative writing workshops, the creation of a magazine, and the production of products (micro-stories, songs, podcasts, lapbooks, booktuber, etc.). These resources are to be used by the centres’ educational communities, in addition to implanting in the centres the culture of teamwork , the involvement of students in the organization of activities, the improvement of communicative and linguistic skills in English and Spanish, the promotion of learning other languages (Italian and Swedish). Keep the collaboration through the eponymous eTwinning project of the same name.
Impact: An increase in the international network of centres, an increase in the number of staff, students and families interested in participating in European projects. Consolidation of collaboration between centres. Stable study agreements between partners to maintain long-term exchanges for students after the project.
