Project Summary

The project is called “United for Sustainability” and it involves app. 60 students and teachers from one Italian upper secondary school, Liceo Copernico, and one Swedish upper secondary school, Karolinska gymnasiet. One of the aims of the project is to make the students aware of the importance of collaborating to create a sustainable future for both individuals and society, especially within the European Union.
Sweden and Italy are both similar countries, and different at the same time. The two countries face different difficulties, but also many similar. The focus will be both on social sustainability with injustices, integration, migration and on environmental sustainability with climate change, a responsible living, waste sorting etc. The students will collaborate both online and IRL making films, holding seminars, giving exhibitions, participating in role plays, discussing and learning a lot from each other.
The project will make the students grow and become more aware and responsible for our future, and it will give them more knowledge about the topic of sustainability .
Another purpose of the project is to improve the linguistic and communicative skills of the students. This will be done by collaborating in English and by working with communicative activities such as film/theatre, presentations, holding seminars for other students, participation in role plays and discussions. All the different activities build on CLIL, a collaboration between English, science, civics and geography to make the students aware of the complexity of the topic.
As the students will meet both online working on eTwinning, and in real life, they will have a good opportunity to get to know each other well. They will also learn how to be good hosts and good guests when staying with another family. Being so close to another family will also give a deeper insight to how life is in the other country, and they will probably find out that we might seem to be different but that we are quite similar! Hopefully they will remain friends for life, Europe will come closer to all of them.
