Project Summary

The partnership constitutes of six primary schools from different parts of Europe: Poland as the coordinator, Turkey, United Kingdom, Spain, Estonia and Greece. The project is dedicated to students aged 12-14, teachers and parents. The project addresses an important problem of lack of knowledge about female representatives in Science, IT, Arts, Politics and Sports, which leads to low self-esteem of girls and women who cannot see their counterparts in important areas of culture and science and consequently do not try to achieve in these realms. We would like to tackle the problem of women’s position in our collective history and culture and highlight famous ladies forgotten or undervalued. In the search of female role-models students and teachers will analyse Internet resources, books and press articles to construct portraits and bios of presented female figures, thus training understanding instructions, reading comprehension and filtering information. In this way students will upgrade their exam and learning skills, improve IT, English and native language and fight low motivation to study these subjects and upgrade their practical competences in critical thinking, digital skills and media literacy. This will result in better school performance and better results during final exams in all partner schools, gaining new skills and practical competences as well as upgrading command of English through practical international meetings.
The core activities of the project are connected with organization six editions of LTTAs in each of partner country. These carefully prepared, five-day meetings will each time have a different headline and participants will present materials on role-model women from their countries and other countries as well. In Poland the topic will be Women in Music and Fine Arts, in Turkey Women in Science and IT, in Greece Women in Politics and Philosophy, in Spain- Sport, in England – Literature and in Estonia Women in Film and Theatre. Each time kids will present 2 female characters related to the topic- one in a form of ppp , one in a short mobile-recorded movie. Additionally, one more lady will be presented, who may not be related to the main topic as a Grand Prix Lady – a person that students find especially inspiring. Consequently, during each LTTA we will produce background information about 18 important women for human history. Additionally, during each meting students will paint portraits of the discussed heroines using different techniques to have a gallery of biograms, films and portraits. Also, we will support and recognise examples of meaningful achievements of our native, local or regional women and portray them so that they can start existing in our collective culture, saving them as example of our heritage. To have interesting form of evaluation we will ask each travelling group of students to keep e-Diaries during the exchanges. In result we will foster personal development and empowerment of girls and women involved in the project but also respect for females among boys. As for hard results we will prepare printable and online teaching material: “The Book of Unknown HERoines of the World” with 72 complementary presentations, 36 short films and comprehension tasks which will include the gallery over 100 women who are worth remembering for their achievements. The project will also help fight prejudice and radical thinking so popular in today’s world as it will ensure bigger openness to other cultures, higher self-assessment and tolerance for others. Another benefit is that students who will travel abroad will gain independence and self-reliance. Teachers will exchange opinions and teaching principles which will add up to their professional position. This in turn will make all the teachers get more interested in future involvement in other projects, introducing in this way stronger position of teachers in class.
Parents of students who will be hosting students will also gain more knowledge and openness for others. In the long run will give our schools higher position and respect of educational authorities.
