Project Summary
The project “Unplay Percussive Sounds in Europe” aims to build step by step a physical photo exhibition and a concert, from the acquisition of basic concepts, through recording, sound recording, arrangements, lyrics and photo shootings. The work will focus on visual and percussive gestures. This choice will demonstrate true “local” characteristics.
A Virtual Photo exhibition will precede a physical exhibition at “Visa off” and a concert at Perpignan Regional Music Conservatory, whose theme will be “my percussive environment”. Visa is an international photojournalism festival held every year in September in Perpignan where visitors can see official exhibitions and meet professional photojournalists, and see “off” festival exhibitions at various strategic locations in the city such as restaurants. , cafes, monuments, public places …).
The exhibition and concert will include photos and a song in English written from the musical soundtrack made by the students during the project.
A video clip in music will promote the project and the exhibitions.
It is to note that, the percussion workshops will not include only real instruments. Objects, tools and utensils from work, daily life or even sport will be diverted and used as percussion instruments.
Regarding the theme of photos, the purpose will be:
1) to put forward local specificities
2) to capture movements and gestures producing percussive sounds.
The sound should not be the goal of the gesture, the sound should not be played.
Regarding the song, the students will write the lyrics related to the theme and their feelings and emotions at the time of sound recording, image capture and learning activities during the periods of mobibility.
This project was born as a result of a first rich artistic collaboration with the Turkish etwinning partner. It was relevant and rewarding to continue this experience through an Erasmus K229 project with European funds allowing a new and more ambitious project and access to short-term mobility of pupils and teachers for a better collaborative work and a rich artistic result.
The referent teacher therefore applied for partners on the etwinning and gateway platforms, focusing her search for partners on both the skills required, the motivation for an artistic project and the European experiences.
