Project Summary
Europe is experiencing a difficult situation, further enlarged by the strong migration crisis that has become one of the EU’s political priorities. The devastating consequences of world wars, the loss of loved ones, deportations and flight to another country for a better future have remained in the collective subconscious. Having a neighbour from another country is no longer surprising, but it is far from considering them equal and including them. Even today, many people suffer discrimination because of their origin, race, religion, etc. Therefore, organizations from six countries (Guatemala, Spain, United States, Italy, Portugal and Togo) and three continents decided to apply for this “Urban Art for Inclusion” project whose main purpose is to promote the inclusion of young migrants for the construction of a more fair and inclusive society, using urban art as a socio-educational tool. The main objectives of the project are:-To improve the key competencies of participants and urban artists so they can develop actions that contribute to the inclusion of young migrants in order to socially transform their communities;-To exchange and develop new educational tools to raise awareness about the inclusion of migrants through urban art;-To promote a higher quality of youth work, with special emphasis on the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities and promoting the internationalization of work;-To create an international network of organizations that work with urban art as a tool for social transformation, inclusion and development, in order to promote cooperation and the exchange of good practices between Programme Countries and other countries of the world. The main activities of the project are:-Coordination meeting in Togo to specify working strategies and methodologies;-Local Activities I: analysis of the situation, meeting with young people, migrants, artists and institutions, identification of good practices and definition of specific learning needs.-Training Course in Spain about inclusion and urban art.-Workshops at the local level and one visibility event.-Job Shadowing: a professional performs an observation period at the headquarters of one of the partner organizations;-Activities for the dissemination of products and outputs (mainly, eBook and video).-Final Conference in the United States for the presentation of project outputs and outcomes, a public event for local population and a final evaluation among partner organizations. This project will have an important impact on the participants (new acquired and/or improved competences, personal and professional development), organizations (use of new competences and tools, exchange of good practices, better quality of work) and also on society in general (greater awareness of the situation of people at risk of social exclusion, wider interest towards urban art, etc.).
