Project Summary

School is daily lived diversity. Offers outside regular lessons such as study groups, excursions and language trips take up individual student interests and enrich the school communities. To perceive and to accept diversity in school, to make use o fit systematicly is not self-evident. This requires commitment, a support and commendation culture, openness for cooperation, ability to work in a team, a continuous work in school committees, the ability to compromise and the acceptance of diversity in of the school community. Europe, too, is lived diversity. The inherent comparison is only sporadically possible, but the perception of regional diversity provides a meaningful framework in the school context as a model of diversity in Europe. The aim of the project „Variety in European Regions“ is to perceive in particular regional diversity in a changing Europe and to use this to build identity and to involve young people in this process of methodical support as responsible representatives of their regions to integrate them responsibly into the methodical support. To this end, we shed light on the regions of the participating schools under the aspects of “Region of culture”, “Region of Fairness”, “Region of Sports” and “Region of Natural Diversity” as connecting and trainable elements. During each mobility, pupil-supported, regionally specific activities are transformed into every aspect of the process.
• Germany: Theatre workshop / Wanderung am Grünen Band (Harz) /Action Day „Fair Consumption“ /Action Day “American Sports”
• Latvia: Museum Workshop: Regional Crafts and Folklore / EU-Boarder in a Region of Tolerance/ Biodiversity workshop in Loki Nature Park / Sports Tournament at the school
• Spain: Pilgrim Routes to Santiago / Carity Day in Kindergarden / paddle-surf-conference and practice / Corrubedo Natural Park workshops
• Italy: slow food / charity-activity for special-need persons / Workshops at MUME / Developing a cycling trek in San Rossore National Park
All mobility is used to strengthen communication skills, personality development and the and team development by pupils using a variety of methods for pre- and post-events on exchange platforms (e.g. eTwinning) and media (homepage, blog, presentations) included. As part of the preparation, the following aspects will be discussed and incorporated into short presentations created by the students. For each mobility (per country 8 pupils and 2 teachers) there will be programme elements to be prepared beforehand, the implementation of which – supported by teachers – is the responsibility of the particular host students. Participating pupils will be between the ages of 14 – 16 years, who have -according to their motivation – a good ability to communicate and to work in a team. Also students with socially weaker backgrounds will be offered the opportunity to gain valuable experience abroad. The Accommodation in host families is a central element of a intercultural encounter and the desired perception of regional diversity is facilitated through the selection of schools secured. The geographical distribution of the schools, the specific competences are chosen consciously.
The competences as well as the connection to regional cooperation partners are well selected in this diversity. The project results will be posted on the corresponding work platforms and also made available to the school community. In addition to the consolidation of existing cooperations and by the implementation of new cooperations there will be documentations about actual project results during the mobilities, such as (e.g. theatre production, cycling-track, interviews) as well as in preparation and follow-up (presentations, reports, podcasts).
Measurable are also the results of surveys from the respective mobilities. Ultimately, however, there are not directly measurable but at least to expect results that are perceptible in the long term, such as
– interconnected work on local, regional and European level
– student centered work to develope an European identity for further generations
– awareness of issues and possible solutions on different levels and regions
– schools experiencing themselves as European schools with a responsibility for European developement
– through mobilities, a spirit of European togetherness is created
– european cooperation will be strengthened, especially for those participants currently without any bilateral partnerships
– the English language will be the vehicle of communication and thus be improved in the long run

The continuous and interdisciplinary work of all participants within the context of our project is a goal to be achieved over these two years and to be carried out even beyond this period. In our opinion, this will lead to a realisation of the aims mentioned above: our project will contribute to the creation of a more social, democratic and fair understanding for variety in European regions and countries.
