Project Summary

CONTEXT/BACKGROUND
Virtual Classroom is a 24-months school exchange partnership with secondary schools from Turkey,Portugal,Italy,United Kingdom and Poland.These schools have come together for the effective use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education. That is,creating a virtual classroom and using ICT tools in teaching and learning process, creating an international classroom atmosphere where technology literacy of both students and teachers are developed. For this purpose, practical programmes and applications such as EDMODO, KAHOOT, WORDART, PIXTON, etc will be learned and used.Each participant school faces problems about students’ internet addiction and this project will turn these negative effects into positive increasing students’ motivation to use ICT tools for educational purposes. The working language is English.
MAIN OBJECTIVES:
– prevent secondary school students’ internet addiction and motivate them to use ICT tools in education
– to adopt the use of internet and mobile devices into teaching and learning activities
– to create new sustainable virtual classroom atmospheres internationally where ICT tools are used efficiently for various lessons
– to train students and teachers about the applications and programmes that are to be used in virtual classroom
– to observe the studies in education in different countries about the use of computers, mobile devices and internet
– improving language skills of students and also teachers
NUMBER AND PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTS
80 students aged 16-18 and 25 teachers from partner countries will directly join the mobilities. Over 1000 students will be included indirectly through dissemination activities.
ACTIVITIES
– Interactive lessons will be done in virtual classroom.
-Presentations, workshops will be carried out in each partner country with the aim of introducing the applications and programmes that are going to be used in virtual classroom.
-Seminars by local experts will be given to show how to use ICT tools in education
-Questionnaires and surveys will be done between each mobility to evaluate the possible effects of the project process on students and teachers.
-Exchange of letters will be done among students so that they can know their cultures,improve their language skills.

METHODOLOGY
5 Learning-Teaching-Training mobility will be done during the project.
C1-November 2019 – Host country: Turkey
C2-March 2020 – Host country: Portugal
C3-May 2020 – Host country: Poland
C4-November 2020 – Host country: Italy
C5-April 2021 – Host country: United Kingdom
Between mobilities such local activities will be done:
-Announcement of the project
-Project team will be established
-Creation of the project website
-Creation of an eTwinning page of the project
-Creation of Erasmus Project corners in each partner school and give information about Project
-Deciding on the lessons which will be studied in virtual classroom.
-Arranging seminars about the positive and negative effects of technology on students and education atmospheres
-Holding training sessions for the programmes and applications that are to be used in virtual classroom
-Sharing the content of the virtual classroom, giving assignments to students and monitoring their studies.
-Observing and evaluating the outcomes of the lessons carried out internationally in interactive lessons
-Carrying out the activities about the specific days and weeks of each partner school
-Monitoring the exchange of letters which are done among students
-Publishing studies on web site, eTwinning, other social sites and Erasmus corner in school
-Publishing the news of the project in local and national press
-Radio and local TV interviews
-Distributing booklets
-Checking all data
-Preparing the final report
– Updating all Websites
RESULTS
The major results are:
– creation of a school atmosphere where each student can use ICT tools
– having common lessons internationally observing and monitoring partners schools use of ICT tools
– more effective and sustainable lessons through use of ICT tools in education
– decrease in addiction to internet and mobile devices and increase in usage in educational purposes
– improved language skills of all participants
– increased use of innovative pedagogies and methods for teaching and assessment
IMPACTS and LONGER TERM BENEFITS
Students will be motivated learners.They will understand the relevance of ICT tools as they realise their impact on education and real life.
Sustainable virtual classrooms will be created in partner schools during and after the project period which will be great motivation for nearby schools.Participants get to know peers from other European countries and cultures, they learn to respect each other, overcome prejudices and value other cultures.This will affect their view on multicultural societies within Europe positively.Students will identify with European values through finding similarities between young people from different countries.
