Project Summary

The motivating key factor for the “We are children of the world “is the fact that children should be well-informed about their rights and responsibilities. The project involves 5 schools from Austria, Lithuania, Greece, Romania and Turkey. The project opts for 6-11 years old students aiming to raise their awareness about Children’s Rights as a keystone that facilitates children’s active role in democratic life. Project partners are interested in providing a broad and inclusive curriculum, in ensuring the space for children to express their views and contribute to schools’ life, in developing rights-based learning and assessment, and in guiding students to understand their rights and responsibilities.
The project aims to develop the school curricula by performing interdisciplinary activities focused on promoting children’s rights as stated in the Declaration of the Rights of the Child.
The objectives are:
-to raise awareness about social norms and behaviour in society among 500 participants from 5 EU countries until August 2022
-to encourage 120 direct participants during a 24 month project to respect children’s rights in school life and in their daily life
-to form positive attitudes toward oneself and others
-to create materials that can facilitate the implementation of actions that promote children’s rights
Our project is open to all students and teachers of our schools. We aim to have a number of 120 6-11 years old students who will participate directly the LTTAs in their own countries and 100 teachers who will attend the international mobilities. The working language of the project is English.
To fulfill the project’s objectives we planned a series of activities that implies an interdisciplinary approach. The activities will reflect the diversity of the European cultures and different approaches in dealing with same topic. Non-formal tools will be used to encourage students to express their artistic skills, cultural and spiritual features.
We planned 5 international meetings all of them involving students and teachers, and participants will have the opportunity to learn from each other, to observe how other peers prepare a visit, what their feelings as participants are and what they can do to offer their guests long lasting memories. The project dynamics will aid students to expand their critical thinking, creativity and communication skills needed in a complex and fast-changing world. Through joint activities we will overcome borders, cultural differences, achieving a small step towards European collaboration. Participants will become more aware of the Europe’s cultural heritage, European values and of their role in the European community.
An important aspect that we want our students to comprehend is that life is not a competition against each other, but to show them that there is enough place for each and every one, that having dissimilar visions is a valuable fact that contributes to innovation and development of cultures and communities.
The concrete results we intend to produce are questionnaires, project logo, presentations, time capsules, suggestion boxes, educational puzzles, handmade bookmarks, “Children of Europe”movie, “Children’s Rights in Europe” poster exhibition, comics to illustrate civic values, summer school toolkit of activities related to children’s rights, an online eTwinning project, project common website, 2 school magazines, 5 scrapbooks-diary of the project, photo album of the project, project DVD and promotional materials (banners, roll ups, flyers, etc.
The activities will promote peer work and cultural dialogue. Summer school will use experiential learning to create practical resources to raise awareness about children’s rights. The project offers the opportunity to develop students’ digital skills and students are encouraged to use the internet for educational purposes. The schools magazines and scrapbooks-diary will promote respect for cultural diversity, acceptance and the feeling of belonging to EU community
The participation in this project will contribute to the development of the people’s personal pathways and involved schools in the long-term. The relationship between people will become stronger by sharing numerous happy experiences and they will be more interested to develop themselves as individuals. Participants will feel more encouraged to “practice” their European Citizenship, to be more aware of their place in their local and national community, and to see how they fit into a wider Europe. Schools will develop trustful relationships, expand the network of EU contacts, give an international dimension to schools and teaching, develop the school curricula and institutional development plans.
The project results will be used as support materials for teaching and organizing extra-curricular activities. The project products will be integrated in the day by day work of the partner schools, so that the content of our project becomes part of the daily practice.
