Project Summary

THE PROJECT AIMThe most important specific aim of the project is to study and summarise the experience of partner-countries and other EU countries in the field of methods of teaching foreign language both to adult immigrants and repatriates with the achievement of the maximum effect of integration. Mastering the language of the host country promotes early integration into the country of residence, increasing of civil activity, involvement into working life and the adaptation of European values of the democratic community. The main out-come is a package of self-assessment checklists, translated into the greater possible amount of languages of immigrant in each country participatiоn.The aim of the project is to create long-term and fruitful relations between the partners and to test in practice various methods and activities for language learning. The project also aims to disseminate the experience of participating organisations to wide range of people, including languageTHE TARGET GROUP IS:- Immigrants, including people with disabilities, with low level of education and in old age. Mastering the language of residence country is essential for full integration and inclusion of immigrants in social and economic life of the host country. The language studying in conjunction with any relevant for the individual activity is the most effective one. This can be a work, studies, hobby, treatment, participation in social, religious or political life, etc. All of this applies to both EU citizens and others.- Refugees.THE PARTNERSThe project involves organisations from EU countries: Spain (coordinator), Finland, Germany and , Ireland. Part of them are volunteer organisations involved to a greater or lesser extent in work with immigrants, and cooperate with local organisations. All organisations involved in the process of language teaching, conduct activities that help to avoided social exclusion and promote more successful integration. THE EXPERIENCEMany organisations have experience in transnational projects, which guarantees its implementation at a high level with the requirements of the European Commission. New project presented herein can and should use some of the findings and achievements of the project program GRUNDTVIG «Step towards Active European Citizenship» (STAEC). Continuity is necessary because it is a positive thing allowing full use of already accumulated knowledge, experience and results continue to work with trustworthy and competent partners. Several organisation are new comers and their participation in the project will contribute to the accumulation of positive experience and dissemination of it in their future activities. THE PRODUCTPartners believe that their task is not only the exchange of experience, but also the creation of a textbook of methods, which can bring invaluable help in language teaching, because it brings together the experiences of many EU countries. The textbook will be presented in digital version. It will be posted on the internet for the public access and may be used for language teaching without limits and it’s structure is:- The overall situation in the country – Events- Target group- Goals and objectives pursued by the event- Material necessary for the work- A description of the work process- The expected results- Self+assessment lists (A1, A2, B1, B2)THE EXPECTATIONS- The projects aims to establish long-term and fruitful relations between partners, to test different methods of language teaching in practice. – The project aims to disseminate the experience of the participants to wide range of interested people and organisations, including language teachers, social workers, and volunteer organisations involved in work with immigrants and conducting activities for their integration. – The project aims to improve professional competence of the participants.- Increasing computer literacyWhen teaching immigrants, the resources of host country are usually limited and do not allow to provide free studies during language courses for more than certain number of hours. Many of the immigrants do not have self-studies and self-assessment skills, which can be explained by their level of education, age, health conditions, psychological conditions and etc. However the lack of linguistic knowledge of the residence country causes irreparable damage to the person (being not able to integrate into a new society, they face an isolation or communicate only with own diaspora). It also has a negative impact on the development of society (segregation and marginalisation deepens, hotbed of unrest appears, which may cause a major conflict). Each country has accumulated some experience in this field. Such integration target is a contribution to the fight against xenophobia, racism and anti-Semitism, to the immigrants’ integration process and to the formation of active European citizenship as “new Europeans”.
