Project Summary

The desired objective of this project is to contribute to the education of citizens and professionals of the agricultural world, and this through a partnership between two agricultural training centers based in France and in Italy. The purpose is to develop a better overall understanding for students of human activities’ impact on the environment and climate change. This will guide them toward their future jobs taking into account these issues. This will also be the opportunity to make pupils aware of European citizenship and everybody involved will improve foreign languages.

In concrete terms, the project will lead the students of these two secondary schools to wonder about the consequences of the different jobs in agriculture and food processing industry on the natural heritage of each country and climate change. This is to raise awareness among young people. French and Italian students will have to think about the best ways to protect the environment in agricultural crops and during food processing. This will be illustrated with face to face and remote activities.

Four groups with fifteen pupils (supervised by two teachers) are planned for the next two years to allow them to meet and discover the specific features of their local ecosystem. They will also work as a team during lessons and practical exercises. These trips will last one week during which students will visit farms and agri food companies in each country. Common educational activities will make them compare and wonder about new agro ecological practices for environmental conservation.

All along this project, before and after each trip, pupils will work remotely with e-Twinning to maximize their task between the two establishments and achieve their objectives. The students will take part in the logistical organization and will be prepared for these meetings by their teachers as part of their course. Teachers will be directly involved in sharing educational content in Italian, French and English to boost new practices in each school.

The planned communication events will reach a wider audience in particular during the “open days” of each training center. In each country, they will work in association with local companies to enhance their action for ecology and environmentally aware production. And this in respect with the specific “know how” of each land.

The following are the concrete results we are waiting for:
– Make students define career objectives environmentally aware and being eco-citizens.
– Improvement of the foreign languages for everybody involved in the project, in particular in English.
– Create a dynamic team with students and teachers within a new project.
Chosen pupils to move will be those in year 12 and 13 schooled in a professional training center in gardening, food manufacturing and laboratory professions. Most of them are scholarship holders and some are dropping out of school and have broken their ties with the family. Other pupils will also invest their time with practical works and communication.

This project was born after a first exchange between the agricultural training center of Cambrai and another one based in Palazzolo Acreide in Italy. This meeting gave birth to a shared problem: environmental education and protection. This is a long partnership wishing to create new cooperation in the future especially with school exchange and professional training. It is therefore expected this will contribute to the internationalization of training and will transfer knowledge and professional skills from a European country to another.
