Project Summary

Context/background of project:
The major technological shift that the transport sector is experiencing, due to a combination of electric powered, autonomous vehicles and connected vehicles, which will require expertise that will be quickly affected by increased demand in new technology areas. Significantly increased resources are needed for teacher training in order for them to have a chance to renew their skills as technology advances. Finally, education will probably also need to offer more advanced elements than today due to technological developments, and this may possibly lead to a need for new educational pathways that meet the vehicle sector’s demand for competence.
Objectives:
An attempt enable VET in vehicle education and training to keep pace with the dramatic upcoming changes in society due to new advanced technology through collaborative efforts. Elements of innovation are required due to the technological shift and are perhaps derived from the bottom up perspective and are a step towards promoting local, regional and transnational cooperation. Presentation of ideas and recommendations for resources that can be used collaboratively in VET for the vehicle trade in order to upgrade skills cost effectively as technology advances.

Number and profile of participants in the project: 18 VET Staff in the vehicle sector from six colleges in Estonia, Norway and Sweden,

Description of activities and methodology: Intellectual output in a report, available for free, divided in three parts:

1. What kind of teaching training equipment do we need in this major technological shift and what can be shared locally, regionally and transnationally?
Method: Research within the partnership

2. What kind of teaching and training materials do we need in this major technological shift and what can be shared locally, regionally and transnationally?
Method: Research within the partnership

3. What kind of teaching and training competence do we need in this major technological shift and what can be shared locally, regionally and transnationally?
Method: Multiple events with local companies.

Impact envisaged and potential longer-term benefits.
The project’s results will remain available and will be used by others through www.amledo.com. Once the material developed in the project it is available it needs little maintenance and therefore can have long sustainability within the limited resources allocated. The long-term objectives for this project are a contribution to the promotion of ideas and how to share knowledge and resources needed to keep up with the new demands for skills in the vehicle sector, enabling increased knowledge and future skills for learners in education and training in the trade. The aim is to facilitate the transition for learners into employment. The synergising long-term effect is increased employability, an increased skills supply for the vehicle industry with its increasing demand for expertise and knowledge due to the effects of the technology shift. it is crucial to plan a timely supply of skills that are adapted to the technology shift. The content of the courses also needs to be broadened to give students a chance to seize work opportunities in new nearby jobs that arise through the technology shift. A renewal of the educational content is resource-intensive and requires closer cooperation and exchange between education systems.
