Project Summary

“WHERE WE ARE? Recovery of interest in local resources “of the I.C. G. De Petra di Casoli was born from the needs of a territorial and didactic context common to other European countries. We speak of mountain municipalities or located in the most internal regions, subject to depopulation of the territory in favor of metropolitan or industrial areas. This determines an aging population, the abandonment and degradation of natural environments rich in biodiversity, history, culture and traditions left to neglect and unconscious discharge of waste of all kinds. Another context, common especially to the southern part of Europe, is linked to the lack of sufficient school results, related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
We want to stimulate students’ interest in STEM, applying them to the environmental context in order to safeguard the territory and to make the community aware of possible resources for eco-sustainable development.

The project involves 5 Comprehensive School Institutes from 5 different countries:
ITALY-I.C. G.DE PETRA of Casoli, Altino and Palombaro
POLAND-I.C. JAN III SOBIESKIE of Czersl
ROMANIA-I.C. and CONSTANTIN BRANCUSI Technological College of Petrila
ALBANIA-I.C. FLATRAT AND DIJES by Fier
TURKEY-I.C. SELCUKLU BILSEM in Konya

TARGETS:
– support soft skills in target groups, through non-formal activities, to increase interest in STEM in students, through their application to environmental contexts
– increase awareness of the resources of the territory by the population and raise awareness of the environment
– decrease the pollution of a unique eco-system by concentration of bio-diversity and protected species
– fight the abandonment of the territory

MAIN TARGET GROUP:
– STEM teachers of secondary school (11-14 years)

SECONDARY TARGET GROUP:
– non STEM secondary school teachers (11-14 years)
– teachers of the last years of primary school (9–11 years)

DIRECT BENEFICIARIES:
– secondary school students (11-14)
– students of the IV and V class of primary school (9-11, will carry out only some activities)

ACTIVITIES’:
For the activities we will elect a number between 5 and 25 participating teachers and a number between a minimum of 100 and a maximum of 300 participating students.
We will make:
– Natural Science workshops in the classroom and outdoors
– fun activities with Mathematics, such as planning an excursion, calculating distance, height difference, position, tracing a route
– workshops with experts on local culture and traditions, experts on waste management and energy resources, experts on bio-diversity
– dissemination of results, to raise awareness among families and communities.

For the Project Staff we will select 3 teachers from each country (tot 15) who will participate in the 5 Project Meetings, for the comparison of the results of the activities carried out.

RESULTS:
for Target Groups
– acquisition of soft skills, through non-formal activities
– gratification in the mediation of their subjects in a digital and technological environment
for Direct Beneficiaries
– knowledge of the territory (bio-diversity, resources, culture, traditions, and environmental “danger centers”)
– progress in school results in STEM
– ability to use STEM in relation to the environment.
For Indirect Beneficiaries
– a new economic development based on eco-sustainable tourism
– trend reversal of the abandonment of the territory
– active participation of the population in the protection of local resources and the environmental context to be preserved

IMPACT:
for Organizations
– Greater environmental awareness
– Additional possibilities for specific actions via the E + program
for Target Groups
– ability to use non-formal mediation for better student learning
– greater gratification from one’s educational activity
for the Beneficiaries
– a different view of the STEM compared to before the project
– a more conscious orientation possibility for the subsequent study path
for Indirect Beneficiaries:
– increase knowledge of the territory’s wealth and resources
– increase sensitivity for environmental protection
– to contrast the abandonment of the territory with the possibility of a development based on Eco-Sustainable Tourism
– encourage young people to plan their working future in this direction.
We will have a significant and detectable impact at regional, national and European level.
