Project Summary

The implemented project dealt with numerous social and educational values of the world cultural heritage. The 15 German and 15 Norwegian pupils each received various assignments in preparation, which related thematically to the World Cultural Heritage of the participating regions. The SuS compiled what a World Heritage Site is, how a site, monument or various works become a World Heritage Site and why UNESCO has established a World Heritage Site.
All results were processed in the first year in a small information flyer. This offers a short, concise but good overview of the topic. However, as the SuS consider an information flyer to be rather “boring”, they had the idea of producing small films about the regional sites of the World Heritage Site. As the development of social and media skills were important goals of the project, SuS’ request was naturally complied with and the results of the research were processed using multimedia. The 16 to 17-year-old pupils worked very well together and created a variety of products. Due to the age of the participants, the accompanying teachers left the implementation possibilities to SuS. The bilateral exchange between the partners worked very well, as the Norwegian pupils have much more experience in the field of media education than the German pupils. However, this did not pose a problem, as all participants were happy to learn something and all were happy to show the others how to create and edit videos. Dealing with the topic strengthened the intercultural competence of the participating pupils, but the skills of the 21st Century were also challenged and promoted The collaboration of all participants worked very well and was profitable for all. However, not only the 4 C’s – communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking – were trained, but also the personal development of all participants is an important result of this project. The pupils now know that they are linguistically able to communicate in a foreign country without great difficulty. They know that cosmopolitanism and tolerance can open doors and open up new paths. They know that they can exist, organise and make decisions independently. It is precisely the development of our pupils into cosmopolitan, tolerant but also critical members of our society that paves the way for a distinct European idea that is supported and defended by the European nations.
Of course it is great when children and young people can create a product together and present it with pride. But the main aim of the project was to strengthen and promote the children’s personality – and this was achieved through lively exchange, collaboration, communication, creativity and also critical reflection. With the help of this project the pupils, but also the parents, teachers and pupils were and are prepared for a life and work in a united Europe.
