Project Summary
“Yes volunteering” wants to improve models and methods to use social and cultural volunteering as a tool to train excluded people to active citizenship for personal and community empowerment. Volunteering is nowadays a tool for participation in society in various fields, establishing itself as an enriching experience that allows the development of social skills and competences. This is why we want to confront on the power of volunteering as a tool for adult education and to equip especially unemplyed adults with skills and competences, which will help them to strengthen their sense of citizenship, responsibility and initiative; improve their media literacy and critical thinking; digital and organizational skills; their career possibilities on labour market, give a chance to gain international experience, develop their tolerance and sense of solidarity and widen their horizons.
Project venue in the Novara and Verbania Province, Italy, and there will be 5 partners,1 turkish,1 slovenian, 1 Portuguese, 1 austrian, 1 spanish (including volunteering Associations and public bodies).
Partners from 6 countries will confront on the differences between volunteering systems, tools and perceptions in their countries. The project will support the transferability of learnings gained thorough volunteering experiences to other dimensions of people’s life. Specifically we will look for ways to maximize the benefits of volunteering in terms of social integration and re-engagement, civic participation, mobility opportunities.That is attempt to face the European and global crisis, which specifically affects low qualified and low skilled people, starting from the development of their resources for active partecipation in socio economic framework. We want to give to the unemployed adults the instruments to improve their abilities and skills of democracy participation, leadership, cooperation, also becoming active to improve the social and economic territory they belong to. The project will also target staff in adult education and volunteering organisations from partner countries who will receive training on the methodology and the topic of enhancement of learning outcomes in volunteering services. The project will last 24 months, with local and international activities.
The following main activities will be performed:
– 6 transnational meetings (with elements from all the countries involved) wil take place in the various countries involved, for project management and coordination;
– Mapping and Survey phase (statistics, challenges, good practices);
-local events and actions in each for dissemination of the project and its results (nternet facilities of the partner will be utilized; informative meetings, verbal presentations will be performed to sustain the outcomes of the project).
The activities will result in the following outcomes:
-guide on best practices in the use of social and cultural volunteering as a tool for adult education
-guidelines and suggestions for the coaching of training programs trhough volunteering : Place, Train, Maintain, monitor volunteers
-collection of best existing educational resources available to empower low qualified adults with active citizenship skills through volunteering
At the end of the project, we at least 120 adult educators acquire skills and knowledge about volunteers coaching, and have intention to work as volunteers coaches or be trainers of traininer to better use volunteering as a tool for personal skills empowerment.
Specifically the participating adults will have gained skills for working with low qualified adults, including tutoring and teaching skills, modeling skills, problem solving skills, active and non-judgmental listening skills, and conflict resolution skills; and will have developed a stronger sense of social responsibility and feel further committed to volunteerism
– The trainers in adult education will have gained the necessary skills and be introduced to the necessary tools that will enable them to implement the volunteers mentoring model proposed in the project;
– The participant organisations will have developed their capacity on implementing social and cultural volunteering coaching/mentoring programs with low qualified adults, as well issues such as project implementation, international cooperation, strategic development, and internationalization;
– Public authorities will have an increased understanding of the problems and needs of the low qualified adults with regards to integration into the labor market; will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of transferable models, which will ensure an easier adaptation of the model by the public authorities if they want to implement it in the future.
