Project Summary
The history of Europe is based on mixing and migration, its multicultural identity is largely expressed through its residents from non-European countries. Yet today immigration is complex to address and isolationism multiply so that the States hardly come to consider immigration as a source of development and human enrichment of the continent. The arrivals of migrants for over a year following armed conflict at the gates of Europe have had to constantly remind these facts. Today it is urgent to restore a dialogue between the people in Europe so that everyone finds his/her a place as a citizen of the European Union. Migrant associations including youth associations who grew up on the European continent but whose origins are from extra-European migration are central actors to renew this dialogue.
In this context, the project “Youth and Migration – Together for a sustainable and solidary planet ” (“J’M”) aims to enhance and strengthen the initiatives of groups and associations of European young people with non-European backgrounds in the area of Global Education by setting up a peer-training program between France, Spain and Italy. The project is intended to lead to the development of strategic partnership between immigrant youth associations in Europe so as to act together with a common challenge, through a system of “inter-association skills sponsorship”.
The project involves 30 associations or groups of young French, Spanish and Italian with non-European immigration backgrounds. 7 of them are integrated into the project partnership ; the whole action is a co-built with young people. GRDR, GAO and APS as NGOs with strong expertise in the field of Global Education, migrations, citizenship, development and community structures empowerment, will act as country referees.
The project’s pedagogical approach will focus on 3 transnational learning seminars between youth associations, and the co-building of a web-documentary (Spanish, Italian and French) about young people with immigrant’s backgrounds’ associative paths in Europe. the Web-documentary will capitalise the seminars’ intellectual productions.
The whole experience is about showing why Global Education is relevant to the gaze of European and even global current issues concerning the migration situation, global climate agreements and Sustainable Development Goals, and the special place that organizations and groups of young people with non-European immigrant backgrounds play in it.
