Project Summary
Our project will involve five European primary schools (Italy, Finland, Greece, Spain and France) welcoming of the public varied socially and culturally and certain with specific needs (disabilities, language of schooling different from the mother language)
In the current context of mistrust towards Europe and a certain withdrawal of the people, it appeared to us as a real need to reinforce the idea of citizenship and to strengthen the link between the universe of the pupils and that of the European Union. Through our project we wish to develop critical attitude, autonomy, initiative taking, the confrontation of different ideas, but also to develop the understanding of young people about democracy and its values (freedom of expression, tolerance, respect). We chose media education and information education to allow the pupils to exercise their citizenship in a society of information and communication, to form active, enlightened and responsible “digital native citizens” of tomorrow.
Our project will combine transnational meetings, meetings between pupils through video conference and continious exchanges between pupils on Twinspace to collaborate for writing articles. Activities in the partner schools which will include the edition and the distribution of five issues of a paper and an e-newspaper joining articles among which development and writing (editorial staff) will allow to develop sequences of teaching in various subjects of primary school. It will give meaning to learning particularly in the field of foreign languages. To achieve this newspaper, we will learn about journalism and jobs related to it.
The main impact of this project will be the good broadcasting and reading of the newspaper as well as good activity on Twinspace . Articles will be published in two versions : a paper version in national language and an electronic bilingual version in English and national language, the digital space will gather various activities realized for the project. However it will have an impact at several levels. This media and information education will promote civic awareness and culture of the pupils’commitment while developing the spirit of initiative, the work with other children of other countries, the approach of the project as well as the disciplinary skills.
For teachers, this project will allow an enrichment of the professional practices, a cultural opening and a strengthening of the skills in English. Through this project we hope that a long-lasting dynamic will be created in each school in order to pursue European cooperation through other projects. The impact will be also be expected at the level of families by educating topics subjects covered in the newspaper but also by offering them an open-mindedness and a curiosity about the partner countries. Finally we hope that this project will impulse specific European media development which are too rare.
