Project Summary
The YoungsEUr’s project is a joint project by six different secondary/ vocational schools from France, Italy, UK, Romania, Portugal and Germany. Five partners are experienced but one is completely new in Erasmus+ ; what we all have in common is language-oriented classes with a vocational background and students aged 16 to 18 years old. The idea of making a guide of our towns from young people for young people originated from students’ wishes to have “something interesting” to do when project partners visit. So apart from creating concise fact sheets of our schools, towns and DOs and DONTs before the first student meeting we want our students to create an internet presence and flyers of the most popular HOT SPOTs or TOP ACTIVITIES in our respective towns (such as places for SOCIALISING, EATING OUT, SHOPPING, LEISURE/ CULTURAL EVENTS, SELFIE SPOTS/ GREAT VIEWS). What is considered a real hot spot in each town is determined by the students themselves – not only the by the 25 students in each country who actively take part in the project meetings but basically all students at school – by means of questionnaires (in paper and electronically) and interviews. The criteria that make something a HOT SPOT have been determined before by the porject students. After conducting the polls the project students have to identify the 5 most often rated HOT SPOTs and present them through videos, interviews and pics to their partners. Duing the Project Meetings the students will then decide on the number one HOT SPOT according to the digital material – except for the host country itself: here students will visit the places and then make their decisions what is the coolest place or activity. At the end of each meeting the students evaluate their choices and also discuss the criteria to find out what students in each country consider “cool” and think about the reasons why this is so. With this activity we want to sensitise students for the cultural background and living conditions of their peers all over Europe. The result will be an Internet presence and flyers for young people who visit our towns and schools. So every time Young People from abroad visit they have a city guide tailored to their needs and interests. The flyers could also be handed out to the Tourist Office and other local schools which would of course make the project even more sustainable and valuable. Since we will use a lot of IT tools not yet really familiar with students and teachers, both parties will improve their Computer/ IT skills, but also their language skills (mainly English since this is the project’s lingua franca) and cultural awareness and understanding. The long term goal is to strengthen our schools’ international profiles and make internationalisation, the use of foreign languages and the knowledge of foreign cultures and habits something natural. Therefore students are in host families where they can experience the host’s culture before venturing out to look for These HOT SPOTS where they can indulge in the country’s youth culture.
