Project Summary

Youth Creating Solutions for Meaningful Participation is a project by four organisations with different capacities but shared interest in youth participation. The partnership includes Nepalese women’s organisation Asmita, Finnish democracy promotion organisation Demo Finland, Slovenian youth network MaMa and Bangladeshi human rights organisation Odhikar. The overall aim of the project is to enhance young people’s active participation in maintaining and building up societies where human rights are respected and all people can participate in democratic processes in their full capacity.Specific objectives of this project are to 1) Increase the competence of trainers and youth workers in the fields of youth participation, democracy and human rights 2) Strengthen international cooperation and mutual learning among partner countries 3) Increase the knowledge and skills of youth to actively participate in their societies, tackle concerns in their societies and promote values of democracy and human rights. The project builds on a previous project of the same coalition. During the course of that project, it was realized that the partners need to go further if they want to contribute to sustainable change in the issues identified by the participants. In practice, the project includes four international training programs that will take place in each participating country. The themes of these training programs are chosen based on the needs of the hosting organisation and country. During these trainings the participants from all the participating countries will be trained as trainers on the thematic issues chosen, they will organize a pilot training and create a training module that will be then used in local trainings in the countries of the participants’ origin and made available for the use of all youth workers. As a result new innovative tools will be created based on expertise and experiences of the participants on the selected topics of the project, more than 300 youth will take part in the pilot and local trainings, the international and cross-organisational network among partner countries will be strengthened as well as the professionalization and recognition of youth work will be strengthened. In conclusion, the youth and youth workers involved in the project will benefit on two levels: ideological, by exposure and experience-sharing and practical, by creating new tools for meaningful youth participation.
