Project Summary
This project encourages a digital and in-person musical exchange for musicians under 30 (half of whom are socially disadvantaged). These shared experiences are based on collective musical creations and initiation to different European cultures.
Context:
Each organization participating in the project highlights the social and artistic isolation of musicians in Europe with no exchange opportunities for them. The current health crisis is hindering the possibility of travel and increasing this feeling of isolation.
Global aim:
Supporting cross-cultural exchange between European musicians.
Specific aims:
– To connect musicians throughout Europe using artistic creation
– To introduce different European musical cultures
– To facilitate artistic learning of young European musicians
Expected results:
– Establishment of a network between young musicians, the pursuit of creative exchange, and the sharing of musical resources of each country
– Acquisition of digital and artistic skills, digital creation software, remote access approach
– Improvement of professional skills
– Transfer of artistic and collaborative skills to local musicians
– Knowledge of traditional European cultures
People involved:
– Participants: 4 young non-professional musicians per partner organization. They are involved in every event.
– Artistic and transnational committee: 4 artistic tutors from each country. They ensure the realization of the musical creations during the digital phase and during the collective training sessions.
– Steering committee: Project coordinators in charge of the planification, organization and monitoring of the activities.
Activities:
– 1 digital event “Cross-cultural initiation and appropriation of digital composing tools” is set up at the launching of the project.
Aims: Language training, composing software training and intercultural initiation.
– 4 events “Musical creation training – from digital to physical composing” are organized, pointing at each country’s cultural specificities. These events encourage the gathering of the participants and collective musical creation and reinforce their skills and knowledge. The musical productions integrate the cultural specificities of each country.
They are organized in 2 complementary phases:
1. The digital creation phase prior to the event. For 2 months, the participants produce their musical creations online with digital shared tools.
2. The collective training session, as a closing for the digital phase.
Typical schedule of a “Musical creation training” event:
– Day 1: Immersion day
Reception of the participants and team building activity
Introduction to the activities organized by the partner hosting the event
– Day 2: Intercultural exchange and pursuit of the writing process
Historical and interactive presentation of a traditional instrument by a local musician
Integration of musical elements coming from the host’s country
– Day 3: Arrangement process
Arrangement of the musical creations produced during the digital phase, in small groups
– Day 4: Pursuit of the creation process and “Professional development” training
Pursuit of the arrangement process
Professional training provided by the hosting organization
– Day 5: Loose creation by the participants
Cultural blending of the different groups of participants. Loose composition work for 1 day.
Reappropriation of local traditional music instruments.
– Day 6: Rehearsal and end-of-residency performance
Live performance of the participants
Informal meeting with the local partners
Evaluation meeting to measure the first results
Direct effects:
– Acquisition of musical skills and knowledge
– Creation of an exchange dynamic
– Interrogation of one’s own artistic practice
Indirect effects:
– Putting one’s own musical practice in a European perspective
– Apprehending the professional musical area
Prolongation:
If the evaluation shows results, the team will consider involving more partners with an online platform networking young European musicians.
