Project Summary

Throughout the world young people are increasingly motivated and key players in facing the challenges of the new millennium: the global climate crisis, the migration crisis and an economic development that fuels (everywhere) increasing inequality and insecurity; in a world society where just over 2,000 people hold the wealth equal to that of 4.6 billion others (Oxfam 2020). In the last century fair trade movement has historically played a role of witness and forerunner to current scenarios, bringing consumers’ attention to the values of production and conscious purchasing, respecting the dignity of the worker, the local impact, the democratic management of production. Promoted by a fair trade consortium, YPSE – Young People for Sustainable Economy! wants to involve young people from 4 continents to make them protagonists in identifying new ideas and work paths, able to renew the mission of fair trade, rethinking its characteristics to adapt it to new global challenges. In 2 years YPSE involve directly at least 200 young people in the 4 countries. Through a pathway of 4 youth exchanges in all the partner countries, young people will be able to enter deeply into the knowledge of the effects of global changes and work with fair trade operators to imagine new strategies and information models.Supported by a group of trained youth workers of fair trade organizations, they will be able to produce these main outputs:- A handbook “Made by youth for youth” in the fair trade of the future. To direct fair trade organizations towards objectives and operational scenarios designed by those who will live the next decades, and that includes proposals to: better link fair trade with other responses to global emergencies, involve young people in engaging in this field, renew messages and media, create a network of young witnesses.- In-depth videos made by young people for the young people, which summarize the wealth of experiences in the 4 continents and can be a valid tool for promoting new life style models. – List of testimonials/influencers from the world of youth to be involved as “fair trade ambassadors” answering to the challenges of time. – Youth Workers Guidelines for the involvement and training of young people in fair trade issues. For these reasons, the project focuses on the priorities of developing young entrepreneurial experiences and their active participation in building more democratic economic models, in line with the UN SDG 2030 agenda and the EU “New priorities for EU cooperation in ET” (2015 Joint Report of the Council and the Commission), for “skills and competences developed throughout lifelong learning, focusing on learning outcomes for employability, innovation, active citizenship and well-being” and ‘Our world, our dignity, our future’ (Joint Statem. 7/6/17): “Young people are agents of development and change […] are essential contributors to the 2030 Agenda, including through their ability to innovate”.
