Project Summary
•4xF for Silver Safety is a later life learning programme based on the objectives of the European Agenda on Security for 2015 by EC and the policy framework of the WHO on Active Aging.
The idea of this project was mainly based on the remark that topics such as security and well being concerning the age groups 50+ address rarely to policy-makers. The need derives from a lack of information and education for older adults on the topic of safety. The main goal is to help seniors take responsibility for their safety and well-being; to stress the fact that their belief in themselves as being powerful, important and competent is the most important self-protection tool that they have.
As the population of Europe ages, the demand will continue to rise for initiatives that help people remain independent and active as they age, improve quality of life for older adults and promote common European values. For this reason it is important to increase educational opportunities that encourage and empower seniors to take responsibility for their well-being.
•4xF aims to address every-day challenges that threaten the safety of older adults, while providing solutions with a view to empower them to cope successfully. The project focuses on ways of improving skills for lifelong safety so that effects are noticeable in adopting healthier lifestyles, increasing self-esteem, confidence and sociability and reducing risks. It suggests a holistic approach covering a wide range of everyday needs of older adults from a mental, physical and behavioral perspective.
•4 organisations from 3 countries (Greece, Cyprus and Slovakia) participated. The coordinator of the project was 50+Hellas, a non-governmental organisation, based in Athens, which since 2005 deals with issues of education and training of age groups over 50. Dobre Rocky 50plus is a non-profit organization, based in Bratislava, that deals with vocational training of adults in lifelong learning, with emphasis on strengthening the independence and self-confidence of 50+ age group in everyday life. Knowledge Brokers is a company based in Athens, that deals with issues of adults education and training. Omilos Gynaikon Eleftheris Kythreas is a non-profit cultural organisation of women, based in Nicosia, that deals, with issues of education, training and well-being of elderly people.
The project also invited professionals working with and on behalf of older adults as well as agencies and organizations that promote healthy and active aging.

The final transnational meeting was held in Athens – Greece from 26.06.2018 to 29.06.2018 and was organised by 50 + Hellas. The main topic of the meeting was fitness for physical safety.Apart from the main topics analysed in every transnational meeting with the participation of experts, the participants took the opportunity to organise a «European Fair» with traditional food and sweets from each country. •The 4xF for Silver Safety Advisory Booklet, the main product of the project, is available on-line from all partners’ websites providing guidelines for life-long safety.
The participants have deepened into 4 thematic fields and have enriched their knowledge through the exchange of know-how and experience. All partners now apply their approaches adopted by other countries in their daily practices. Target groups are directly involved in project’s topics and they adopt in the everyday living the novel practices. This intensive up-bottom approach has multiplier effects in very short time-period.
•During the project implementation partners approached stakeholders in local government, mostly municipalities, which have responsibility for issues and programmes for people over 50, in order to highlight the themes of interest and influence their politics to that direction. The main effort was to include in their future planning approaches and themes similar to the ones addressed by the project so as t
