Project Summary

Social Inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities in the context of the labor market is one of the constant challenges for Europe and for individual member states. Every European country, including the countries of this partnership (Georgia, Poland, Slovakia, Great Britain) experience this problem, albeit in different dimensions and with different intensities. The theme of our project was to involve young people with fewer opportunities in the context of the labor market of the partner countries. As a result of the observed social changes and in consultation with the Partners, the Jagiellonian University Extension (Wszechnica Uniwersytetyu Jagiellońskiego) has decided to use its know-how in the area of social involvement. By tapping into theatrical tools and competencies and partners’ experience, we have decided to jointly create tools that will respond comprehensively to the need for more inclusive young people by facilitating mobility in the labor market. The central product of the project was the events including interactive spectacle (based on the forum theater technique), directed to young people. More than 180 young people, from 4 different countries – Slovakia, Poland, Georgia, and UK took part in such a spectacle.
The spectacle tells the story of the difficulty of entering labour market by youth with fewer opportunities. The performance is unfinished. Spectators of the spectacle (who were recruited from youth representatives with fewer opportunities and youth workers) had a chance to play the role of main characters (young people) and improvise (interacted with employer, social environment and other “players” of the labor market) in order to improve the situation of this person. This kind of simulation allowed them to learn, analyze, understand, experience, look for solutions, and work towards social inclusion – which will result in increased realism and the ability to implement such change in their lives. Youth, educators and employer’s representatives gained also the knowledge about intergenerational differences. Each performance was preceded by the intergenerational workshop. The summary of an event included the analysis of the activities undertaken on the stage and the reflection part about those experiences.
An additional result of the project was the filmed version of the spectacle, followed by the tutorial. Using that history, the educators will be able to exploit the video in their professional activities with the youth. Products devised by the partners, including spectacles, intergenerational workshops and videos reached more than 104 000 social media users. Youth on Stage project was also an exceptional opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and good practices between project partners – ICEDU from Bratislava, DRONI Association form Tbilisi, Oldham Theatre Workshop from Manchester and Jagiellonian University Extension from Krakow. Partners shared the knowledge about the useful methods in youth work, using the theatrical techniques in social work and the conditions of the learning process.

PROJECT GOALS:
1. Increase the chances of young people, with a particular focus on disadvantaged people, for social inclusion and labor market integration.
2. Equipping youth organizations and people working in the tools to build competencies and support young people in entering the labor market.
3. Raising the awareness of youth workers and employers about the creative use of generational differences and the potential of young people to build better cooperation in the context of the working environment.
4. Strengthen the educational potential of Partner organizations by exchanging experiences, methods, and knowledge on the cultural and social context of the functioning of young people in the labor market.

TARGET GROUPS of our project are:
– young people with fewer opportunities, beginning on the job market
– educators, representatives of non-governmental organizations working with youth
