Project Summary

Having in mind the history of mankind, sea has always separated and connected countries and people. It has been inspiration for poets and artists and a great challenge for scientists. It tells us stories of hope and desperation, of trade and exploration, conquerors and emigrants, that is to say, about the history of Europe and the world. However water pollution incidents are very frequent nowadays, marine biodiversity is limited and in general the quality of this natural resource is being seriously threatened.
From the need to raise awareness about the protection, sustainable management and preservation of our marine heritage, our project has been conceived and reflected in a European dimension. In partnership with six schools we will experiment and observe the different attitudes and implementations in marine environmental protection and the evolution towards a sustainable society. Each participant must learn and acquire simultaneously: new knowledge, new skills, exchange of ideas, transfer of creative practices, access to new teaching aids, language training and language skills in real contexts.
The spirit of active participation on the part of all stakeholders (students, teachers and school community), peer learning and collaborative work will be essential for all students to become not only eco-citizens but also also eco-ambassadors, aware of their rights and duties and capable of exercising them responsibly.
In addition, European cooperation, visible and alive, will be a valuable asset to educate, raise awareness, promote and promote good environmental practices.
All of these topics will be covered in a variety of student workshops, promoting creativity and self-esteem. As a result, the balance between the proposed activities and the intercultural dimension is ensured, which will enable students to be open to the international, towards the other, social skills such as the feeling of belonging to a group, the critical thinking, the ability to solve difficulties and to achieve a certain autonomy through initiative.
The desire to fight against school difficulties has strengthened our determination to engage collectively in this project: to restore confidence to students in difficulty, new teaching practices and new tools are essential. The valuing of individuals, the restoration of trust and self-esteem will facilitate their awareness and desire to perpetuate a marine heritage they will be proud of. Investing in an innovative project with a European dimension will help to promote their learning, share ideas and put them to the collective advantage.
The frequent use of different ICT tools will freshen up the teaching methods, whereas peer learning combined with the outdoor education will show clearly that teaching/learning outside the classroom can be equally effective. As a result the school becomes a friendlier environment, more innovative, more open.
Being the dimension of integration and social inclusion and education the axis of our project, the priority students in this project will come from disadvantaged social backgrounds, migrant populations, school difficulties or school dropout. The impact will be crucial because this project will give them the opportunity to move, visit, learn about other European countries, spend time with foreign families, make lasting friends and above all to have a feeling belonging to a multicultural Europe.
During these two years, we will implement a series of activities so that our students discover their own environmental, cultural and economic heritage as well as that of their partners. In our classrooms, during virtual meetings or during five mobilities, students will not only learn and enrich themselves, but also transmit and disseminate them while playing their role as eco-citizen and eco-ambassador.
Mobility in Croatia and Poland will highlight the marine environment and its protection to educate our students, but also the adverse impact of humans on marine biodiversity, undermined by over-exploitation and pollution. In Greece will propose a biologist approach. In Romania, it will raise awareness and protection of the sea from a scientific, artistic and linguistic point of view. In France will be a strong humanistic contribution: history and economics, literature and art to better understand the cultural heritage.
All these activities will be an integral part of school curricula and will be put into perspective and widely disseminated locally. To make our project sustainable beyond the funding period, we will continue to collaborate on Etwinning, keep the website up-to-date and develop it, and maintain cooperative relationships between the teachers involved for future projects.
