Project Summary
Our project “Maths as a window to the world” was created as a result of observing the need to unite European countries by having highly qualified maths students with high digital and language skills, available to move around Europe, open and ready to search for innovative solutions for the development of the community. We observe that traditional lessons are not very attractive for the modern generation. For the majority maths is perceived as a difficult and boring school subject, and technic is perceived as a male profession. We want to incorporate modern technologies and ICT tools for learning and teaching, to show the beauty of maths, its universality, practical application and importance in every aspect of life and science.
The project provides a framework for partner schools to develop their approach and methods for the needs of education and for the better benefit of the modern student. In a situation where pupils and organisations are forced to meet and respond to the needs of 21st century European society, changes in the teaching and learning of the pupils themselves are necessary. In view of these changes, we want to equip young learners with mathematical and digital competences and to strengthen communication and language skills. The project promotes the student’s ability to present ideas, points of view, arguments, methods of solving and interpretation on an international level, both through e-virtual tasks and direct teamwork and location workshops in 4 schools. It provides students with insights and experience in the use of ICT tools and technologies, in the development and improvement of mathematical skills, while at the same time developing language and interpersonal skills. Over the two years of project work, pupils, teachers and schools will make intensive use of the eTwinning platform, the online blog, contacts, which will give each participant, but also each school, the competence to share, inspire others and recognise new partners to develop the basic elements of a new European vision for teaching and learning.
The main objective of the project will be to develop and improve mathematical competences with the practical use of modern technologies and ICT tools, creativity, innovation, critical thinking, problem solving, learning to learn and teamwork.
In particular:
-development of students’ knowledge and mathematical skills,
-to get to know different aspects and applications of mathematics in science and everyday life,
-development of skills of algorithmic thinking and problem solving,
-Improving the ability to apply mathematical principles and theorems to solve problems, arguing
-Improving the ability to use modern technologies and ICT tools in learning mathematics,
-improving personal skills to facilitate communication across borders,
-development of students’ motivation to learn maths,
-development of students’ motivation to learn English,
-development of teamwork skills,
-following modern trends in education, learning about innovative methods and forms of teaching,
-increasing the international mobility of pupils and teachers
-shaping the European dimension of schools,
-getting to know the culture, customs and monuments of a given region, country.
Participation in the project will have a significant impact on the image of schools in the local and international environment, as it will contribute to the improvement of the quality of education and development of significant competences of students valued on the modern European educational and professional market, the institutions will strengthen their European dimension, increase the school credibility for the implementation of further projects, which will facilitate the future organisation of further international projects Erasmus+, eTwinning and others. In addition to improving pupils’ mathematical, digital and linguistic competences, the project opens up the young generation, including those in rural areas, to Europe and the world, offering the opportunity to experience something they learn about in class or only know about from the Internet, television or books.
