Project Summary

1. Context/background of project:
Burn-out and lack of transfer of knowledge among leaders is common in youth organisations in Iceland. The Finnish Scout Association (www.partio.fi) has developed a system where the „traditional“ responsibilities of the leader of scout groups has been divided into three roles: Administration (Lead the local group), Human Resource Management (Lead people), Youth programme (Lead the programme). We believe this model will help Icelandic scout leaders to tackle the administration of local scout groups, enhance the management of human resource and personal development of adult volunteers and strengthen the scout programme.
The Icelandic scout groups vary in size and access to adult volunteers. We believe that the Trident leadership will help engage more volunteers when the tasks at hand are not as overwhelming as if you have to take „all or nothing“ in leading local groups. This may help local groups in the rural areas as they might get help from the urban areas with single tasks at hand as they are well defined.
2. Objectives of your project:
The project contains preparation in the form of skype meetings and one preparation meeting that will take place in Finland with two participants travelling from Iceland. The main emphasis will be on a course/training held in Iceland where two trainers will travel from Finland to hold the training course which will also help with the beginning phase of implementing the Trident Leadership Model.
3. Number and profile of participants:
The participants in preparation and training course leaders are mainly two from Iceland and two from Finland. The Icelandic participants in this part will be our head of office which is responsible for the preparations for the course and implenting the Leadership Model in Iceland. The two course trainers coming from Finland are experts on the subject. One of them was one of the lecturer at the Icelandic Scouts General Assembly in 2018 and has been working as a volunteer on the subject for a long time.
The course participants will be approximately 50 persons from the local scout groups in Iceland and staff members who will serve and help with implementing the model.
4. Description of activities:
Most of the preparation will be arranged in skype meetings and e-mails. Two activities require travelling: Preparation meeting in Finland and the training course in Iceland.
5. Methodology to be used in carrying out the project:
The project is based on courses and training and the methodology will be a mixture of lectures, workshops and hands-on training.
6. A short description of the results and impact envisaged:
The results will be that most of the Icelandic scout groups will have implemented the Trident Leadership Model in their administration and the Icelandic Boy and Girl Scout Association will have useful hands-on material on the subject which can be shared out to other youth non-profit organisations in Iceland which show interest in the model.

7. The potential longer term benefits will be a more effective scout association with effctive administration tools which will encourage volunteers to contribute to the scout movement and make it possible for the volunteers to strengthen their personal development and enrichen their lives at the same time that they help young scouts in their scouting programme.
