Project Summary

The main idea of the project EUROMOSAICA was to promote transnational cooperation between students from eight European schools (from pre-school to secondary school) aimed at raising awareness of diversity and inclusion. The project promoted dialogue in our local communities and schools in eight European regions (Latvia, Italy in 2 regions – Ischia and Sicily, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Turkey). By learning together in a multicultural society, we promoted communication between our countries. We formed a close partnership among children aged 3-16. Our goal was to teach them how to work in teams, collaboration, responsibility and care for younger ones and sharing. Sharing is a very important social skill nowadays.
According to Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, one of the targets was to improve the quality and efficiency of education and training. It highlighted the importance of smart growth in education, through encouraging people to learn, study and update their skills. The project activities spread and highlighted the educative initiatives regarding multicultural understanding and promotion of local cultures, languages and traditions within European concept as well as provided new and innovative approaches in teaching considering the fact that each student is different, so called student – centered teaching.
Students thought about problems globally and realized that diversity does not mean bad. They were aware of their identity, got to know different cultures, traditions, values and accepted diversity around them. The project focused on the day-to-day situations that are part of pupils’ daily lives and the communities to which they belong, such as family, school, minorities and discriminated groups in their community.
The main motivation of this project was to create young generations who are connected to their nations’ saving and values which came through the history. This project helped the students to know where they came from, to be proud of their roots, but at the same time tolerate with others.
To achieve the aim of the project we had planned the project for two years. The project let participants to investigate and compare different culture issues such as language, culture, traditions and customs supported by innovations and technologies; improved their skills and abilities to organize local and international meetings, educational excursions, shared the best experiences concerned to the educational excursions, made contacts with local community and city council as well.
We created a ‘mosaic’ together – each of piece was done either during the meetings or during other local activities; they were made by all participants. The contribution of each participant was important, and the participants became convinced that together we had done what we could at the time and create a better world around us – a better Europe. All of the mosaic pieces are value-added, all personally faced, experienced, filled with emotions and activities that teachers and students did, working together, side by side. With the learning activities of the project, we wanted to reduce the differences in learning outcomes, linked to the geographical and socio – economic disparities by providing more modern, dynamic, committed and professional environment inside our organizations: ready to integrate good practices and new methods into daily activities of the schools involved.
In each of the schools involved in this project, we focused on eight great values in our cross-curricular activities:
1. Language and culture. 2. Manners and celebrations. 3. Clothes, dressing and folk art . 4. Food and rituals. 5. Religion and religious traditions. 6. Traditional crafts. 7. Family life and community life. 8. Multicultural atmosphere in the regions. Each partner was responsible for applying one of the values in during the project implementation.
The project achieved the following results:
1) Created 7 electronic magazines (in madmagz program), created project website (https://euromosaica.wixsite.com/website), created logo, various presentations during project (available on project website, as well as on project partner websites), various work materials, two videos documenting the mobilities of the project, a video from the partner schools summarizing the project and photos of the events, and the comics created by the pupils (using makebeliefscomix) All the documented results are posted on Twinspace.
2) Intangible outcomes that can be measured in the long term, as the acquired personal and human values and attitudes have a continuing impact, as our students will be able to evaluate the experience gained during the project, working with different and diverse cultures, appreciating their own. They developed personal (self confidence, empathy, tolerance, understanding) and communication skills, digital and organizational skills and competences, experience in using English in real life.
