Project Summary

MOSAIK City is an intercultural project between young Europeans. It is the third part of the bi-annual European artistic exchange project MOSAIK started in 2015 in Germany with MOSAIK Odyssey, continued in 2017 in Spain with MOSAIK Quijote, in 2019 MOSAIK City took place in Clamart.
MOSAIK City was conducted by the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Départemental”Henri Dutilleux”of Clamart (France), the Conservatorio Oficial de Musica”Hemanos Berzosa” and the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Extremadura of Caceres (Spain), the Musikschule of Lüneburg (Germany) and the Kulturskola of Hammarö (Sweden). In the project, 10 to 17 students selected from each country, i.e. a total of 53 students, formed a working team that created, developed and performed a common multidisciplinary show based on artistic disciplines such as dance, theatre, music and the visual arts.

The theme chosen for this European artistic project is The City. This creative theme allowed us to draw on cultural and social fields, by evoking lifestyles, everyday’s life, the architectural heritage, the relationship to space and the urban, it lead us to get to know each other better from one country to another. We explored through Literature, Pictures, Fine Arts, Theater and Dance works from our different countries that deal with this subject and we took inspiration from those materials. This theme allowed us to question our different cultural identities, their divergences and their common points, it also allowed us to reflect on the city of tomorrow, our fears, our wishes, our dream cities.

This work of artistic creation was supervised by an international team of 15 teachers in the four partner centers, specialists in the artistic disciplines making up the project. We lead the students on the various possibilities of explorations around the theme of the City, we impelled research tracks in the various artistic fields.
During the first seven months of the project, research and creation workshops was organized in each country to create the scenes that composed the common show.

The main objectives of the project were :

-To value the importance of the different artistic disciplines as the language and means of cultural expression of countries and individuals.

-To share ways of living and exchanging artistic experience through collaboration with colleagues from other countries to strengthen European integration, promote European values and foster the study and dissemination of our cultural heritage

-To knowledge different arts education and training systems

During the month of May 2019, the four groups met in the city of Clamart and Le Plessis Robinson in France for one week. Each group presented each others scenes. Workshops were organized in order to set the common scenes lead by different countries. Meanwhile, a group of teachers from each country met in order to choose the setting of the pieces of the mosaik. The whole group took part of the transitions scenes so as to make the show more fluid. This work on common scenes and transitions permitted to get our countries more close to each other. It has been a week of exchange, rehearsals, shared reflexions around the creation that bind our four countries. The show was presented on May,31 in L’Allegria in Le Plessis Robinson, it was transmitted as a live internet in others countries. Meanwhile, the Bellas Artes de Caceres exhibited their paintings in the Town Hall City of Clamart. For the exhibition opening, a part of the french students gave a mask and music performance in front of the Town Hall. The EMC, a video school followed the whole project and filmed pieces of it so as to set a “making of” of the Mosaik City project and a video of the show. At the end of the journey we took a day to visit the City of Paris.
The project ends with the evaluation and valorisation of the work done, with the publication of the artistic material generated in MOSAIK City.
