Project Summary

The project is a continuation based on the conclusions and recommendations of the “White paper on Youth Work” published in September 2018 by NaturKultur e.V Germany. The “White Paper” clearly outlines the need for improving the work conditions and well-being of youth workers and their lack of representation in front of the relevant European institutions and policy makers. This project enabled us to make an assessment and map the EU (Brussels) landscape related to youth workers, their well-being and the different status of youth workers in different countries. The project produced three intelectual outputs. The first intellectual output concluded that the European institutions need to adjust to the changes in the eco-system of youth workers and they need to set up new systems in place that would be suitable for the changing landscape of young people and youth workers. One of the most important conclusions of the second intellectual output was that “Youth Work” (from legislative and policy perspective) will be fully recognized if countries develop and adopt:
1. Law on Youth Work
2. Portfolio of youth workers
3. Quality standards for Youth Work
4. Ethical codex for Youth Work
5. National strategy for youth work
The third intelectual output focused on the well-being of youth workers and the job insecurity for the most of the youth workers was expressed as a challenge. It was stressed that youth workers often work overtime because they perform several roles within the organization and youth workers often are stressed, feel no appreciation of themselves and their work, exhaustion, disappointment, apathy, feeling of „no way out“, lack of energy, forgetfulness, constant fatigue, don’t want to go to job, procrastination or feeling overloaded. These were serious findings the IO3 concludes that there is a need for a free supervision and free access to psychological support that could build a more productive and healthier surrounding for the youth workers and all young people.
These information (reports) will serve as basis for a larger follow up project (KA2) discussed with the German National Agency for opening an office in Brussels for representation of the youth workers and youth grass-root organizations in front of the relevant institutions.
