Project Summary
The kindergarten Alterbach in Salzburg, Austria and the kindergartens from Murska Sobota, Slovenia cooperate since 2003. During the year the kindergartens communicate about projects, celebrations and special topics by post or digital. The exchange about different kinds of methods is very important for the cooperation!
The highlight and end of the kindergarten year is the project: “Kunst kennt keine Grenzen” (Art knows no borders). Every year there are creative workshops which take place on four days in Salzburg as well as in Slovenia. In Salzburg the whole kindergarten is involved. In addition, we expect about six families and kindergarten teachers from the kindergartens in Slovenia. There are also six families and kindergarten teachers from Salzburg who are travelling to Slovenia a couple of weeks later. The workshops are predominant in the field of creativity, performing arts, exercise – outdoor, music and dance. They depend on the interests of the children and arise from projects and special topics which we have worked on during the whole year. Furthermore, music plays an essential part. Making music together opens tremendous processes and energies. The workshops are an important method for creating art and to get together through art. In a prepared environment the children can, based on their skills and imaginations, get creative without the interference of an adult. We trust in their social skills and creativity. The projects are conducted by the kindergarten teachers from both countries and local artists. For us it is a significant matter to include the parents too. At the end of the four days there is a summary and a public presentation about the workshops for all people who are participated and are interested. To get to know the respective country better, the hosts organize an experience-oriented afternoon. A significant goal, particularly in this period, is to raise the children’s openness, mindfulness and sensitivity for another culture. The learning of the language is relevant, but the focus is on the (further) development of the child. It is important that not only the result, i.e. the completed product is in the foreground, but also the process quality. This project touches the souls and makes a contribution to peace education.
