Project Summary

This project has been based on the use of techniques of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). It comprises several aspects. We will tackle two of them: the geo-localized routes and the image markers.

• To geo-localize is to represent graphically the exact position of “something” (buildings, individuals, vehicles, images, etc.). A geo-localized route is a route on a map where information about some particular points is given. This is particularly important in urban settings where historical, artistic, cultural, sports, musical routes can be done.

• In the image markers, applications that detect specific images are used and they offer information associated to that image: photographs, videos, music, etc.

The main activities have been the creation of routes and markers:

The first year, each school elaborated four geo-localized routes and the second one, the schools created markers of those points to be physically installed on the streets of that town. What is more, in order to promote the interaction among the participants, each school has created one route of their own town and the other three of the other participating towns using the information that they provided.

The routes made reference to specific subjects: History, Biology, Literature, Physical Education, etc. The Augmented Reality adds a new methodological approach to the acquisition of this knowledge together with the improvement of the students’ competences on ICTs. Moreover, the selected planning has provided the frequent contact among the students and the resulting improvement of their linguistic skills.

Other activities were carried out, especially for the spreading of the project, inside and outside the school. The most important ones were the workshops for nearby primary schools about AR and VR techniques, but also participation in fairs, articles in educational specialized magazines and local press, radio broadcast, speeches in congresses, etc.

Another important item has been the introduction of AR and VR techniques in the educational methodologies of some subjects, such us Technology, but also Literature, Philosophy, History, etc.

The participation of students was high. Fifty students of each school took part directly in the project, although most of the students of each school know about it or even helped in some activities, especially during the meetings. The participating students were 15-16 years old and had sufficient command of English and basic computer skills to work on the project.

As regard teachers, 10 of them per school with more or less implication have taken part at each school in the project. They had a different degree of experience in RA, coordination of European projects and management of students’ groups. They also had a varied technical/professional profile of specialists in Technology, English, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, Language and Literature, History, Economics, etc.

The impact in our schools has been high; moreover, it has been extended to our towns, by means of the press and radio dissemination and the markers in the streets. We also have had an impact in the group of teachers specialized in ICT from the participation to congresses and the articles published on magazines.

The documents attached in the Results Platform show a detailed list activities, the estimation of the total impact and sustainability actions developed by the schools.
