Project Summary
The BETTER TOGETHER (BETO) project arises from the union of two centers, one from Spain and the other from Ireland, which have already worked together on the Erasmus + project KA229 SHARING AND LEARNING TOGETHER (SALT) in which they realized that, as they were Complementary centers could continue working and learning together.
The Codema has an experience of more than 7 years in the implementation of new methodologies for learning and extensive experience in the coordination of European projects. The Irish center is a center of reference in the inclusion of all students as it is a center of integration and low experience in European projects.
The priorities of this project arise from a needs analysis carried out in both centers that have a growing percentage of students with SEN (special educational needs) in recent years, currently reaching 15% in Ireland and 3.3% in Ireland. Spain. But while Irish teachers are specialized and widely trained in inclusive methodologies, Spanish is not, whose Guidance Department considers it necessary to improve the inclusion of NEE students. On the other hand, the Irish center is very interested in continuing to train in active methodologies that are applied in CODEMA to improve the results of its students, especially in STEM. That is why the project is based on the following priorities:
P1: Social inclusion [HORIZONTAL] – We want to improve the perception of NEE students by the group of students.
P2: Strengthen the profile of the teaching professions [SCHOOL] – We want to provide teachers with tools that allow them to advance in their professional development and take advantage of new methodologies with all students and in particular with the NEE.
P3: Increase the levels of achievement and interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) among all students. [SCHOOL]
Both centers have written a series of objectives that we want to achieve after the development of our project:
O1- Provide teachers with tools and strategies for working with SEN students, contributing to their professional development, by preparing a Guide on SEN for teachers. Related to priority 1 [P1] and 3 [P3].
O2: Improve the motivation of students in STEM subjects through the elaboration of videos applying an innovative methodology, Flipped Classroom, where the protagonists will be the students, thus generating resources that can be reused for future promotions and contributing to the sustainability of the project. [P2, P3]
O3: Improve the inclusion of SEN students by implementing the activities that will be included in a SEN Guide for students and check their effectiveness by comparing sociograms made to students. [P1]
O4: Increase the European dimension of the centers that are part of the project by exchanging experiences and learning that favor the entire educational community through short-term mobilities and the activities of this project. [P1 and P2]
(R) TANGIBLE RESULTS
1- Integration guide about SEN students for teachers. It will include the types of difficulties present in our schools, adaptation of tests and activities depending on the disorder and documents that are required by the DO.
2- Integration guide about SEN students for students. Activities will be included, in order to work on different values, such as: Empathy, inclusion, emotions …
3- Creation of motivational videos using the Flipped Classroom methodology. The contents of the Science area will be simplified by recording videos of the different units. The protagonists will be the students and thus, we can share them with our partners and learn together.
4- Others- Videos, images, meeting minutes… All visible in TwinSpace.
INTANGIBLE R
1- Favor personal relationships between equals working activities in which different values appear such as empathy, inclusion …
2- To favor the professional development of the teaching staff, providing them with a series of tools and strategies that allow solving the possible difficulties that may arise in relation to students with SEN.
3- To favor a better competence of the students, facilitating the learning, understanding and acquisition of content using innovative and motivating resources that capture the attention of our students.
STRATEGIC R
1- Quality Seals- It is required to obtain a national and European Quality Seal from both partner schools in recognition of a job well done, continuous learning and will be part of the dissemination of the project.
2- Increase the European dimension of educational communities and the feeling of belonging to the EU and recognition of the value of European heritage among students.
3- Generate a network of centers with common interests for future projects.
