Project Summary
CONTEXT
We are five European schools which have the common aim of sharing our experiences related to eco-projects and relating activities in order to improve the level of consciousness and engagement of our pupils and their parents, to help them understand that being socially and ecologically responsible is critically important and to lay the foundation for the future healthy attitudes of pupils towards the environment. One of the common needs we have identified is the need to help pupils realise that our actions today will have results tomorrow. The five partner schools have a different background – they are from different areas and bear their own cultural marks and mentalities in terms of civic and ecological responsibility. Yet, each school has good practice to share and this is an opportunity to create a common framework of best practices by joining our efforts that will be promoted in our areas, thus having an impact not only on the current generations of pupils but also on the upcoming ones.
OBJECTIVES
The project’s main aims are the exchange of good practices among partners in relation with eco projects and environmental teaching activities uploaded on a database created by us.
Specific objectives:
O1 – increase awareness in terms of the energy resources and intelligent consumption of these resources
O2 – become conscious of the necessity of water for human beings and its wise consumption
O3 – come to know the consequences of irresponsible food consumption on the health and the environment and adopt responsible behaviour
O4 – innovate a strategy to protect the environment and adopt principles of recycling among pupils and their families
O5 – improve the beneficiaries’ attitudes towards the environment and raise social responsibility
O6 –allow the intercultural exchange and raise intercultural awareness of teachers, pupils and parents
NUMBER AND PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTS
There will be 20 teachers involved in the five transnational training events. These are mainly primary teachers, but also English teachers whose role is to contribute to the language lessons developed all along the project. Therefore, a number of 60 teachers will be the key beneficiaries of the project.
The pupils in the partner schools are secondary beneficiaries mainly pupils aged 6-8 which means a number of around 400 pupils. These will take part in the local activities, cultural activities, exhibitions and direct beneficiaries of lessons and activities observed by their teachers during the training events.
ACTIVITIES
C1 – Clever consumption of energy (RO)
C2 – Clever water consumption (LT)
C3 – Clever food consumption (TR)
C4 – Clever management of waste (GR)
C5 – Clever lifestyle and attitude to the environment (UK)
METHODOLOGY
Before and after each LTTA we will connect on eTwinning. Before LTTAs, our aim is to set mobility details, whereas after the LTTAs the purpose is to share the outcomes of the activities applied with the pupils. This will act as a monitoring activity too, so as to check the level of attainment of objectives step by step.
RESULTS
The project’s concrete results consist of lesson plans related to the environment and teaching materials which help to teach literacy and numeracy, science and PE, project ideas database, local exhibition on each sub-topic that will be promoted in each host school after the transnational training events, videos, pupils’ products – artwork, objects made from recycled materials, dissemination platforms such as eTwinning and school websites, social media platforms, exhibition materials, interviews and questionnaires.
The project’s intangible results comprise the raised awareness of the beneficiaries in terms of pressing environmental issues, improved attitudes and changed conducts, raised intercultural awareness and comprehension of the similarities and differences among us, improved teaching skills.
IMPACT
The schools involved will develop at various levels:
1. Personal and Professional Development – improved motivation and contribution to the lesson and material making of direct participants in the exchanges. They will actively get involved in the school activities which will give them a sense of belonging to a professional network and a sense of self-worth. Pupils’ awareness of how to protect the environment will improve. They will actively get involved in the exhibitions which will stir their civic engagement from early ages.
2. Relationships with parents will become more reliable as parents will also get involved in the project activities which is expected to result in getting more involved in the future school life.
3. The image of schools at local level will improve and become more visible as important factors in their local communities in educating children for the future beyond the mere subject teaching frame.
4. School curriculum policy will integrate environmental topics in order to continue to make use of the outcomes of the project beyond its lifespan.
