Project Summary
The project “Climate is a topic!” will meet the need to improve the quality of work, education and social, civic and linguistic, pupils, including those with special educational needs (SEN), in the area of climate protection and preventing the effects of climate change, in 6 partner schools: from Poland (coordinator), Greece, Bulgaria, France, Italy and Belgium.
The two-year project will be attended by: 150 students, including 75 from the SEN, aged 11-15 (mobility: 68, including 32 from the SEN) and 84 teachers (20: outgoing training, 40: accompanying students, 24: involved locally).
The aim of the project is to extend social and civic competences, in the area of climate protection, and language, in the field of English, among 150 students aged 11-15, and thus multiplying the number of students, including those with SEN, in social activities and citizens, strengthening knowledge and awareness of climate change, increasing the number of very good and good grades in the final oral exams in English. This will be possible through the application of the Open Teaching Strategy (OTS), extension of the CLIL methodology, improvement of teachers’ competences, use of new technologies and TIC, introduction of activating teaching and upbringing methods, drawing on the idea of European civil society for joint efforts to prevent the effects of climate change.
The objectives of the project will be met by external actions: 2 short trainings for teachers in Belgium and Bulgaria: “Open Teaching Strategy” and 4 short-term exchange of student groups in Poland, France, Italy and Greece, during which conferences, workshops, happenings, concerts will take place, theatre performance, city games, exhibitions, computer atelier, open lessons from CLIL, interviews with representatives of school communities with local authorities and activists.
The complementary to mobility will be internal activities in schools: 4 on-line training sessions, at the TwinSpace, for teachers with OTS, being a continuation of outgoing training programs, virtual lessons, open with CLIL, studies on social and civic attitudes of students towards climate change, but also in the face of cultural diversity, language and opportunities, exchange of ideas on the blog and forum, exhibitions, competitions, information on the results of the final oral exams in English, OTS and CLIL training for local school teachers, promotion and dissemination of results through articles in the press, in educational online media, participation in festivals, meetings with authorities, teachers’ conferences.
The international project implementation team (coordinator and five chairmen), in cooperation with national teams, school heads will monitor, as planned, all project activities, providing the best practical and logistical support and full preparation of participants for mobility and implementation. The methodology of project cycle management will be used in project management.
Expected final products of the project: methodological guides with OTS, specificity of work with a student with special educational needs, lesson plans with CLIL and workshops, a set of activating teaching and upbringing methods and TIC, training programs, multimedia presentations, computer games, films, a mini dictionary of languages, reports, travel reports, final oral exams will be made available on the TwineSpace (e-twinning) platform of the project, in tabs on school websites, on the platform disseminating the results of Erasmus + projects.
The project will bring measurable benefits:
