Project Summary
Community Makers – Comma – was a young communication project whose objective was the personal development of its participants, as well as the social development of the two European territories where its activities were carried out. Throughout 21 months between 2017 and 2018, a group of 8 young people from the Toledo region of La Sagra and another group of 8 young people from Istria County in Croatia were trained and launched two online youth magazines. In Spain, La Villana de La Sagra; in Croatia, Info Centar Zum. The main objective of the project was to help the young European group to be more informed about matters of their interest and, therefore, have access to greater and better opportunities for both personal and professional development.
The project has contributed, therefore, to the articulation of both territories and their connection with each other and with a greater geographical reality, such as the European one. These journals also pursued the promotion group of 16 young people had quality training in everything related to the publication and management of these journals with the aim of making them sustainable beyond the financing of E +. Through these publications, the young participants have contributed to the development of their community while they have developed themselves and have expanded their options for personal and professional growth. The initiative also pursued the improvement of the image of young people in the collective ideology to move from “ni-nis” or “pasotas” youth models to young people committed to their environments that make social ventures a possible reality in their contexts.
In addition, the project also aimed to narrow the gap between the academic and labor world, making it possible, thanks to specific training-training, that this group of young people could make the sustainability of their journals possible and thereby produce their own development opportunities. professional in its territory.
The project has been identified and promoted by the young participants who, throughout its design, and subsequently in its phases of implementation, coordination and evaluation, were advised and coordinated by the promoting entities, ZUM in Croatia and Kieu Project in Spain; therefore, within the Erasmus + program, both entities established this strategic partnership in the form of a transnational youth initiative that allowed the development and sustainability of two European digital publications, while allowing the learning and growth of all its participants, both personal as institutional; as well as the development of their territories.
The project is structured around two phases. A first one of launching of the publications (2017) and another one of consolidation of the same and work on its sustainability (2018). During the first phase a “Kick off meeting” type meeting is included in Croatia and similar training in each country on edition, design, programming, photography, text writing … the first phase ended with two international meetings (one in each country) ) that will include the presentation of both publications to the respective communities (multiplier events 1 and 2), as well as two international trainings on social marketing and entrepreneurship (one in each country). From there, phase 2 of the project began, focusing more on the tasks of filming the journals and their sustainability. Once again, this phase ended with an international evaluation and closure meeting and two multiplier events (one in each country).
In terms of impact, the project will make a difference in both territories since it has involved a novel initiative that connects youth participation, social initiative, entrepreneurial spirit and training in digital and creative aspects; allowing the action of the young people on themselves and their territory to be well known among the community in general and serve as an articulation of the territories and expansion of the opportunities they offer their neighbors.
