Project Summary

Europe is experiencing the most intensive and problematic refugee crisis after the 2nd World War. More than a million migrants and refugees crossed into Europe in 2015, sparking a crisis as countries struggle to cope with the influx and creating division in the EU over how best to deal with resettling people. (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34131911). Although there are important attempts taken for the suddenly emerging crisis, the consensus issue at the European level still on the foreground and stays as a problematic area for an effective action. This situation shows that we are in the middle of an emergency in terms of refugees’ social and economic inclusion. There are important attempts taken in this area also but in each country, institutions are applying different programmes and methodologies. With the cooperation and creation of long lasting networks in the area, the project is gathering the most affected countries and concerning institutions together in order to “increase the profiles of refugees in terms of their survival skills and adaptation to resettled areas”. This project contributed to purpose of creating a common strategy in EU in order to facilitate the migration process and refugees’ chances of succeeding in their new environment.

With this project it is intended to strengthen the profiles of refugees in terms of their survival skills and adaptation to resettled areas through the development of an interactive information platform including information on essential services for resettled refugees such as pre-departure preparations, initial reception, social support, employment support, education and training, language training, orientation and documentation, health care, income support and/or in-kind support, services to meet specific needs, housing. With this project, it is also intended to improve the cooperation between the stakeholders and responsible authorities. The output called “interactive information platform” prepared with the data collected from partners and stakeholders with the consideration of existing practices. The output included information which set up a comprehensive guide in general, especially for Turkey and Europe, and it included country specific information gathered for the refugees’ learning.

Therefore, the target group of this study is adult refugees. By taking adult refugees as target group, it is also intended to reach whole family including the children and improve adaptation skills of whole refugee populations in this way. The project partners were chosen among the countries who are exposed to intensive migration waves in the last years. The partners of the project are Ankara Aile,Çalışma ve Sosyal Hizmetler İl Müdürlüğü,Anadolu İletişim ve Eğitim Derneği,APEC. from Turkey, Civis Plus from Greece, Cooperazione Paesi Emergenti from Italy, and Instituto de Inovacao e Desenvolvimento Social de Barcelos from Portugal. In addition, all concerning agents and authorities dealing with refugee students’ adaptation submit their contributions and benefit from our project. Project includes intellectual output activities, multiplier events, transnational meetings, project management and implementation activities and dissemination activities. Main intellectual output of the project is the interactive information platform and this platform disseminated and submitted in the form of open source with the contributions of each partner.

During the project, the project partners and stakeholders cooperated on the basis of project activities to contribute to long lasting solidarity network. The ideas, good practices and methodologies shared within those practices. They learned about what kind of challenges are experienced, what kind of solutions are developed, which methodologies are used in other countries and institutions dealing with adaptation of refugees. The acquired knowledge about these areas used for the development of the material published on the platform. With the trainings and other activities, it is expected to strengthen the profiles of refugees’ skills in terms of adaptation into a new environment and their awareness raised. In addition to that, the project formulated the background for a European orientation approach in which all countries contribute by providing their country specific data in the same structure. With the dissemination activities, the project outputs available to all agents dealing with such problems. It is also expected that these outputs set up a guide for many stakeholders and encourage them to take action.
