Project Summary
As a European level, digital literacy this days is considered as one of the essential skills to allow citizens to effectively exercise full citizenship. Still, a wide percentage of adults still lack the skills and attitudes to use digital technology and therefore to exploit the opportunities that these provide. ICT skills are regarded as crucial as they gradually dominate all aspects of life. This means that the inability to use technologies can result in a marginalization not only in the labor market, but also in the civic society as a whole. This is a digital era where people highly depend on technology and level of skills developed in order to sustain in society. It is even a bigger challenge for adults to follow all these innovations because technology is an enormous novelty that they should fast adapt to. In order to meet their needs, we prepared a project on Computer literacy and IT skills that will be developed so that new possibilities and challenges are open. We will carry out the project with a main aim to teach adults the basic/intermediate computer skills with further tendencies of them being more adaptable (acceptable) on the labor market.
Thus, our project is a big step forward not only in theoretically introducing, but also putting into practice the competences required for a (quality and competent) potential employee. It is clear the fact that most business depend on employees with strong computer skills, so, employers sometimes find it difficult to choose the right candidate due to the lack of computer literacy and IT skills which complicates the process if the one has all the other characteristics. Therefore, our project came with the idea of preparing a person with a ‘complete’ resume, who can perform their duties efficiently together with what matches their responsibilities regarding using of computer and IT. Adults were taught on skills like Microsoft Word for word processing, Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets, Power point for presentations, etc. to enable them use computer and related technology efficiently covering different levels of usage (from elementary use to more advanced ones). Participants that took part in the same were adults that are in need of improving their skills and competences for entering the labor market and increase opportunities for employment, wanting to expand and update their resume with the experiences and abilities gained.
The development of the complete project was carried out with a previously well prepared strategy by the project coordinators (and managing groups/contact persons appointed by the organizational staff for each participating country), with the applicant country as a leader of the process and partner countries (Spain, Portugal, Estonia, Bulgaria) taking a considerable part in the same. The division of responsibilities was agreed on at the first transnational meeting in Macedonia, where all the documents and administration was prepared and distributed. Contracts on cooperation, communication and certain logistics were also on the agenda and talked through among partners so that we set a specific and organized program for a good dynamic and good flow of the project. The development of the project was managed at different sectors, management preparation, management and monitoring of project implementation, time management and budget management, selection of participants, management of administration, documentation and records, logistics management etc. all throughout the preparatory, implementation and dissemination phase, and in accordance with all NA regulations. Regarding Meetings and outputs, 5 Transnational Meetings were held, all followed by researches and preparation of intellectual outputs. The researching process was as follows: all partner countries were involved in the research (researches are conducted in their respective country) which were further developed and presented at the Transnational meeting- meeting at which every participant is assigned a certain subject (or a few subjects) to research. Every participant and participating country were actively involved in the analysis of the previously carried out research, stepping in with comparisons of data, presentations and further development of the issue. The final intellectual output is an App that is consisted of the best practices of all the previously conducted researches and analysis.
The overall project increased adults’ awareness of computer literacy importance and the benefits of upgrading the same continually. It was also broaden their views on active EU citizenship and the opportunities for employment available. Apart from that, it fostered creative thinking, motivated and encourage them to take steps into their personal and professional development. The project dynamic flow is maintained by constant and effective communication among partners and previously well-structured organization.
