Project Summary
The project “Connected with the environment” is a 2-year project designed to develop and strengthen parnterships between 5 European Schools with different experiences and backgrounds. It aimed at approaching different aspects of the theme of the environment via various topics and levels which all together resulted in achieving high quality skills and competences in areas such as interpersonal relationships, cultivating national heritage or being more friendly to the environment. Moreover, all levels included highly intense and efficient use of digital learning tools and exchanging good practices so as to meet the needs of teachers and learners in all partner schools to make the technology a part of the learning process. The activities were supported by the teachers from many different domains such as science, history, ICT, languages and psychology. All the partners eagerly promoted all the skills and competences acquired during the project to enable next groups of students and teachers to benefit from the achievements of this project.
The project was divided into 4 modules, each concerning a different, broad part of the environment: history and culture, relationships, technology and ecology. Each module was going to be approached from various levels such as class, school and the city and/or region. This made our project innovative and highly motivating for students to participate. Moreover, our aim was to strengthen the cooperation between non-IB and IB schools, having PYP, MYP and DP in their offers as it was a great opportunity to exchange good practices on the international level.
During the project it was intended to create a guidebook for the future use, organise workshops on various topics, conduct surveys for continuous evaluation, while students and teachers used ICT tools and prepare posters, videos, presentations and many more. All the results were shared on the open license (CC-BY-SA). The variety of products to be completed demanded effective time and task management, communicative and social skills, motivation, positive attitude and responsibility. All those skills are necessary in further education.
It was expected that at the end of the project students and teachers will be able to:
1. confidently and critically use the variety of ICT tools to produce videos, posters, lapbooks, surveys, interviews etc.
2. communicate their ideas and opinions in English in a variety of forms (written, oral, formal and non-formal), develop awareness of intercultural understanding and demonstrate positive attitude and appreciation of cultural diversity. This objective will be achieved thanks to creating different products, as well as the transnational nature of the project.
3. identify needs, initiate, plan, manage, execute and evaluate actions with awareness of ethical implications that come with them, attempting different roles and developing motivation and determination in achieving set goals. This objective will be achieved thanks to implementing of the Inquiry Based learning circle.
4. explore different teaching and learning techniques and develop new teaching strategies that will be implemented in the partner schools. This objective will be achieved thanks to using PYP elements in the schools.
5. cooperate transnationally with partners and nationally with local partners and institutions. This objective will be achieved thanks to establishing partnership with the partner schools and local institutions.
6. explore creatively different domains on various levels and notice global context of issues discussed on single subjects. This objective will be achieved through interdisciplinary character of the project as well as multidimensional approach towards the modules.
