Project Summary

The EU target, of increasing the employment of the population aged 20 to 64 to at least 75% by 2020, is at stake. Although recent data shows an increase in employment-rates since the crisis of 2008, it’s too soon to relax our efforts. Looking at the employment rate by age group it is striking to see the employment rate for people aged 20 to 29 falls far below the average. The situation in Latin-American countries does not differ from Europe’s. “Unemployed youngsters represent more than 40% of the total number of unemployed in many countries (a higher rate than in European countries) and the 14% youth unemployment rate is more than double the LATAM average rate of 6%.” The CARMA-project wants to deal with the current challenges the youth faces, not by guiding them to a job but by helping emerge from unemployment. One of the CARMA-project objectives is to build up social cohesion by building up their capabilities and cultivating Responsible Citizens. The CARMA-project will furthermore promote cooperation between stakeholders with the goal to help young people grow and play an active part in their society. To bolster the youngsters the CARMA-project will be focusing on four main fields: Youth Unemployment, Ecology, Health and Citizenship.The main objective of the “CARMA”-project is to support the European (and global) efforts to decrease youth unemployment by strengthening the youth’s capacities, competences and economic abilities through extending their knowledge, perspective and (personal and/or professional) network
