Project Summary
The Creative Training for Youth: Europe – Africa is an exciting and innovative project that aims to empower young musicians in Southern Africa, through musical training and technical capacity building, promoting the active interaction of musicians, trainers, youth workers, and the creative industry, for the development of the creative economy.
This project will deliver training, to 160 participants, to develop the much needed technical skills, to improve their ability to generate income and improve their livelihood in the creative industry. The 160 participants will learn and undertake best practices that can be used beyond the scope of this project, multiplying the outreach.
Concrete objectives:
Outreach >20,000 people through social media, partner organization websites, 500 printed flyers, local radio and newspapers in both countries and 2 large banners for the closing showcase concert
Host two transnational meetings in Europe, with one representative present from each partner organization
Train 60 youth workers at 2 training campus
Deliver 6 workshops to 100 youth workers, musicians and interested young people
Transcribed 15 songs that will be used as content for the African Real Book
develop and upload 20 learning tutorial videos as a resource tool
By investing in such activities, the project aims at intervening positively in a wider area of the music industry and the music education value chain in Africa. Normally, the value chain in the music industry focuses on factors like recording and CD/music video production, festivals and producing music for the international market. The project proposed by this consortium, focuses, on the contrary, on promoting a healthy, balanced music education system that takes in account several other important aspects with the aim to contribute to a viable and sustainable music industry.
This project complements results of previous initiatives and will support the development of innovative training materials and training of for the currently operational Music Crossroads Academies in Malawi Mozambique and Zimbabwe, which aim to strengthen the Music education in Southern Africa by improving accessibility, affordability, relevance and quality of music education in the region. The initiative aims to introduce sustainability in the music education sector, by evolving with the needs of the region.
We strongly believe that investing in music education is the key for the sustainable development of the creative industry creating jobs for musicians and an important tool for social cohesion among young people, improving their livelihoods.
