Project Summary

This partnership gathers secondary school pupils aged 15 to 18, from two European French-speaking secondary schools, one in the Province of Liège , in Belgium, and another one in Loudéac, in Brittany, in France. The aim of this project is to build up a team of young Europeans whose backgrounds are different and who make a film over two years’time. The French candidate secondary school is situated in the centre of Brittany, which is mainly an agricultural and working-class region whereas the Belgian partner secondary school is situated in an urban and industrial area.A third place is involved in this project as both secondary schools call on a Parisian association called “ Plus loin….” whose members are used to making short films with young people. They can provide us with shooting halls . Besides, they have a network of contributors who belong to the cinema professional field. This project has a local partner in Loudéac, the art cinema “Quai des Images” . They show the pupils’ film as well as its “making off” which tells the different steps of their film-making and the marking moments of the project.Pupils and managers’ mobilities follow the shooting stages by changing meeting places. The first meeting takes place at theAthénée Flémalle in Liège and deals with writing . The second meeting takes place in Paris for a first shooting stage. The third one takes place in Loudéac for the editing and the film being shown in Loudéac’s “Quai des Images” cinema, for the first time. What is exciting is the double purpose of this project, which is telling their meeting in a common artistic production and living this meeting. The human dimension of this project is indeed more important thanks to their will to make a film together. The pupils’questioning about the topic of the frontier leads them to ask themselves questions about their place of living, their origins, their position in Europe as well as their own limits inside themselves. This film ( a fiction, a documentary or both of them ) must start from the pupils’ concerns and their expectations for their future. The partnership project plans periods of learning about the European cinema for the whole group of by participating to Angers’ “ Premiers Plans” festival which is a festival of first European film. So, it is meant to educate these young people in order to help them be well-informed and critical spectators about today’s cinema in Europe.Since September 2015, the pupils who take part in the audiovisual groupwork in Loudéac’s Senior Secondary School and those who attend video learning lessons for beginners in Liège have kept in touch and created a group on the social networks. It is called Bretagne/Liège Audioteam and is aimed at talking about this topic and oncoming ideas. All along this schoolyear, each school makes an audiovisual creation in their own country looking forward to being able to make a film together. The French production will be shown in June 2016 at the “Quai des Images” cinema in Loudéac.
