Project Summary
The materials that account for more than half of the world’s industrial carbon emissions are steel, cement, paper, plastic, and aluminum. The demand for these materials will doubled by 2050. This production of CO2 will rise, and this production will contribute significantly to climate change -and also creates other risks like reducing the supply of drinkable water and land that could be used for growing food. The question is “how can we meet the growing demand for materials without destroying the environment?”. The answer is by studying how we could Reduce materials, making stuff more efficiently and Reuse the materials —it should be possible to cut emissions in half without big sacrifices. Governments can lessen their climate impact and drive up revenue and consumer satisfaction by moving toward a circular economy (CE)
Our project is addressed to teenagers aged 14-16 who are the European citizens in the nearest future. At this project there are five partner countries, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Greece and Cyprus. In student exchanges totally 125 students will be implied, while the rest of them (more than 1000) will be involved too, as they will participate in other activities and/or will be affected by results of the project. Teachers from different areas are involved in the project, especially those dealing with Art, Science, Technology, Computer Sciences etc.
Some of the objectives we are going to achieve through this project are:
+Development of environmental awareness- Study and observe environmental issues of the world and their everyday life, realize how important they are and try to eliminate them. Students are going to be the protagonists of the improvement of their environment, at school and outside school and will try to establish new ways and a new awareness of reusing and reducing materials among fellow students by being role models. Presentations, videos and leaflets will be prepared to support environmental protection, and a survey will be held to estimate the environmental awareness.
-Increasing the levels of achievement and interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics- they are going to study scientific methods that are already exist for the Reduce and Reuse of materials, evaluate them and exchange ideas, so to improve their scientific knowledge about the subject. Questionnaires will be analyzed, so mathematical skills will be promoted.
-Their Innovative and creative skills will be promoted, since they will create unique, artistic and useful objects out of waste. They must think outside the box.
-Enhance their knowledge and adjustability by getting to know the new scientific terms of ‘CE’ model and try to adjust them in their everyday environment and compare it with the already existing model of linear economy.
-Develop student’s entrepreneurial skills philanthropic awareness, by organizing their own business that sells their creations so to collect money for students that have economic issues. We want to teach them how they can create businesses where they will contribute to the society welfare taking into account local/regional/world society needs in future. They will learn how to follow the rules of fair trade and meet the environmental needs in terms of being nature friendly and ecological.
Outcomes of this project are development of key skills and competencies, such as: critical thinking, communication, financial literacy, collaboration skills (ability to cooperate in multiracial, multicultural and multilingual environment) language, cultural awareness, creativity, digital, social, analytical, moving.
During the activities we will use various methods of work – presentations, videos, workshops, discussions and debates, interviews, excursions, seminars, lectures, role-play activities etc.
The project will have a desired impact on the participating schools, it will help to start or extend their international partnerships and activities. The schools will be more popular, and people will learn more about school activities. People not connected with schools so far can learn about the school’s activities and maybe find some kind of cooperation. The students and teachers of the partner schools will improve their skills and will become more interesting for the labor market. Motivation of the students and teachers for future international cooperation will increase and the awareness about Erasmus+ programme and other matters regarding the EU. The project will help the participants to become aware of Environmental issues and use their creativity and innovation skills to Reuse and Reduce materials. This can be involved in school’s curriculum. The schools will also strengthen cooperation with local authorities and Universities and will be also able to offer future students the gained experience. And above all, the participants will gain and develop their competences and will become more educated, more cultural and more interesting for labor market.
