Project Summary
Develop together new learning methods
This KA2 project was a partnership between 4 horticulture training institutes from Belgium, Germany, Slovenia, Latvia and the Luxembourg association AG-EU-Garden asbl with around 80 mobility participants and a further 1000 beneficiaries.
In order for the students of all organizations to be able to benefit from the project in the best possible way, we set ourselves the following goals: “The learners research their own possibilities, find out how they can implement the topics offered and practice structuring their own practical learning. You also need to find ways to publish what you have learned and publish. Along with this is the further education of the teachers, who can orient themselves in their teaching methods to the learning methods. ”
During the activity, the learners were given a concrete, practical task that needed to be solved. The focus was not on the individual person, but on the group that was to develop joint solution strategies. The participants had to independently develop knowledge areas and skills and were thus encouraged to structure their own work and their own learning method. In these phases the teachers were available as coaches and gave assistance to different learning methods. The implementation of a presentation of the results in the actual task automatically led to the students having to deal with different presentation options and presentations. Due to the obligation to publish reports on the activity, the participants also had to deal with public relations and advertising.
The students preferred to work with the following methods:
Individual work, group work, create checklists, self-organization, work on the project, simulation, create demonstrations, discuss. It was very important for them to be able to choose what they should work on and when and how to organize their own work steps.
At first, most students were reluctant to approach unknown classmates. The approach was partly after a few hours, with some participants only after 3 days. At the end of their week together they sometimes felt disappointed that they had not sought contact faster. Everyone was pleased with their “aha experiences” in learning and working with others.
