Project Summary

World fields (‘Weltacker’ in german) will be laid out in Germany, Austria, and Liechtenstein in 2021. The world field’s 2000 square meters represents the amount of arable land which is theoretically available to everyone in this world if the area is distributed fairly. Nutrition, food production and food supply, soil fertility, and soil as the basis of our daily nutrition are the central starting points for the world field in the three countries. Fertile soil is limited. Agriculture in particular relies on this resource, so that as far as possible nobody has to go hungry. We live in abundance, but we are often unaware that we obtain part of our food from other countries where there is no abundance. Thus, the project points to the problem of the globally unequal distribution of resources such as farmland.
With the world field, the project partners convey an idea and a feeling for everyone’s own role in global agriculture. Global challenges are broken down into a tangible area.

In the partner countries, various activities are being carried out in the field of education. The main aim is to give children, young people, and the interested visitors a better understanding of food production and consumption, resource use and its impacts. The project includes a professional exchange between the partner countries, a common platform for the development of digital information materials which are used at the individual events on site and a digital exchange between the participants.
The topic of food supply is more central than ever, especially in times of COVID. The different approaches to conveying and further developing topics related to the world field are of utmost importance and meet a broad demand.
