Project Summary

The Technical Institute of Namur and the Saint-Joseph Lasalle de Lorient Professional High School are educational institutions that organize qualified studies in the industrial and construction sectors. Our project was to establish a strategic partnership to benefit from the knowledge and tools of each institution.Educational innovation was based on student sponsorship for theoretical and practical learning. Several objectives were addressed by the project.

– Motivate students through another form of learning to avoid school dropout.
– Consider international mobility for the most disadvantaged and allow for a European opening for employment.
– Develop entrepreneurial skills and competences such as initiative, autonomy, team spirit.

The strategic partnership was based on the following activities:
A first step was to train the students on the learning available at their school. These students then sponsored the students of the partner school on the selected manufacturing techniques and processes.

The students of Lorient welcomed the students of Namur for a week for a Plexiglas design training with Computer Numeracal Command machines. They were given a second training on the maintenance of refrigerators and air conditioners. A third course has allowed students to learn how to network elements in domotics. The last training focused on the operation of a palletizer.

In counterpart, the students of Namur welcomed the students of Lorient to teach them the folding and cutting of metal sheets, especially through the plasma cutting technique. A second course was on hydraulic power in industrial mechanics. The third training was the maintenance of a production line.

Visits to companies and industrial complexes organized in partnership have highlighted the usefulness of each of these courses. We can quote…

Partner companies in Belgium: Technocampus maintenance training center, Siris prototyping company, DCoup Lazer company.
Partner companies in Brittany: Airbus aircraft company, St-Nazaire port, Lorient stadium (for its heating and air-conditioning facilities).

A few cultural and tourist visits have made the stay more enjoyable and friendly.

Binomial sponsorship has been effective at several levels. The students focused on learning that they would later pass on to their referred friend. There is a great incentive for collaboration. Sponsors motivated to pass on their knowledge. Referred friend curious to learn the most. Learning has been faster and the results have been of great quality.

Results:

– School grab-off of students: No drop-out found.
– Overall good school results and no known failure. Successful qualifications for all.
– Motivation to teach the sponsors so that they can pass their skills on to their respective referred friend.
– Collaborative dynamics of the teaching team.
– Rapprochement and collaboration between the general training teaching team and the technical option teaching team.
– Development of a sense of belonging to the school that enhances the positive behavior of the students.
– The students were entrepreneurial and committed to the project.
– Sponsorship among students is an exploitable model of teaching training to strengthen motivation for learning.
