Project Summary

This project aimed to raise awareness of national and European themes, particularly addressing to healthy lifestyles, physical activities, European citizenship, spirit of tolerance and community participation.
With this project we wanted to help young people to find their own healthy lifestyle, suitable for their needs and preferences, and motivate them to live healthy and to understand the close relationship between a healthy life and their mental and physical well-being. Another key point for us was the sustainability of food consumption: we wanted to promote no junk food eating and, at the same time, we wanted to encourage people to eat more local, organic, in-season food and to share healthy recipes. Finally, we wanted to give students, families and teachers the possibility to learn, to understand, to appreciate different examples of healthy lifestyles and, at the same time, by interacting with the variety of European cultures, to promote in pupils, teachers and their families European citizenship and tolerance.
Students have been involved in various activities focusing on topics examining how healthy lifestyles differ in different European countries. They have also reflected on what were their eating habits and how much exercise and sporting activity they practiced in their areas.
All activities of the project were well prepared and designed for the students’ age so they participated in the project actively; this would reduce the risk of early school leaving.
The project was managed by adopting PDCA method and SWOT analisys. All decisions concerning the project were taken on the basis of signed agreements among partners, who communicated with each other by means of closed Facebook groups, emails, e-Twinning portal and transnational physical meetings.
Activities and results, both in terms of outputs and outcomes, were strictly monitored and assessed by means of a wide set of qualitative and quantitative indicators, specifically designed.
We conducted “spiral activities”, in conjunction with peer-learning. This meant that teachers got new knowledge with the help of experts in teachers’ training, then they returned to their own school and taught what they have learned to selected students, who have spread it to the whole school community and to their parents. Besides we wanted to foster the cooperative learning approach, adopting on-line collaborative platforms (mainly e-Twinning portal) where students and teachers were able to learn, teach and co-create new content of the project.
The results of the project are summarized in an end product, and on the common web-site of our project. By this, students, teachers, families and communities gained many tips and ideas on how to develop healthy lifestyles fitting to their different personalities. The Guide contains recipes for a healthy nutrition, structures of physical exercises, suggestions for leisure time activities coming from all partners.
Moreover, the end products gives lots of advice to families, schools and other institutions and organizations about how they can support the teenagers in this.
Thanks to this project many documents and experiences, shared by means of different media, were disseminated in all partner schools and the wider community in Europe.
Following the new European approach, thanks to our project we generated two intellectual outputs and good practices ready to be shared within European Teachers Society; this is a strong contribution to lifelong learning strategy for teachers and, more in general, for adults.
