Project Summary

This project, named “Employment and Entrepreneurship in Europe – EEE”, was planned to help students learn about employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, regionally and internationally, giving them a set of knowledge and skills, which may be reflected on a competitive advantage for their professional future. Therefore, we connect the education world with the world of work, through the analysis of different realities related to employment and entrepreneurship, in different countries committed to the development of this project, namely Spain, Italy, Sweden, Norway and Portugal.

With this objective in mind, three LTTA’s were prepared, to which students from all schools involved have prepared presentations related to the culture of their country or region and about their most relevant economic activities. Along with these presentations, they have also prepared specific material to include in the two modules referring to themes on entrepreneurship, “start-up” business and employment in their region. This material, which was produced by students, has resulted in: two “teachers information pack”, that contain two class plans, one for the theme of entrepreneurship and the other for the employment theme; in work proposals, in interview guides and in videos and/or presentations that serve as support material for lesson plans.

The first LTTA took place in Spain, from November 20-22nd, 2018, and the second LTTA in Sweden, from April 8-10th, 2018. The third LTTA was completely planned to take place in Portugal, in Terceira Island, Azores, from March 24-26th, 2020; however, unfortunately, due to the epidemiological situation caused by Covid-19, it failed to materialize since all flights were canceled and airports and schools had closed. Nevertheless, students prepared all the necessary material to present in this LTTA.

Several students, ages 16 to 20, from different classes, participated in the activities of this project. From these students, 14 -15 students from each partner school (48 total), had the opportunity to participate in the LTTA’s.
The results and impacts of this project were attained since students had the opportunity to acquire a better understanding of the European job market, provided by the exchange of experience at the LTTA’s; they improved their self-confidence and enhanced the mastery of the English language, taking into account that the materials were produced in English. Learning materials were developed for the schools, for the teaching of entrepreneurship, implementation of new businesses (start-up) and active job search. The expectation is that other teachers can use this learning material in the future, for the teaching of subjects dedicated to entrepreneurship, business and active job search.

Another benefit of the development of this project was being able to put schools and their students in close contact with the real world of work, namely through contacts with local successful entrepreneurs and job agencies, gathering information and knowledge that may be very useful in the future. Moreover, this project was also very beneficial for the awareness of European citizenship, reinforced by the exchange of experience among students from different countries, which helps to fight xenophobia and racism, and instead promotes an intercultural competence and understanding between people from different countries and contexts, this being one of the priorities of the ERASMUS+ program.
