Project Summary
Rationale
Covid19 pandemic is touching different aspects of the life of European countries and their citizens but it is undoubted that the most relevant ones are economic. On June 2020 the unemployment rate in the EU reached 7.1% (EUROSTAT) with 7.5% for women and over 16% for youth.
Among the sectors much impacted by the pandemic, the cultural sector suffered the most with the closure of spaces like theaters, cinemas and other venues or the new measures for social distancing creating relevant issues on people interactions in artistic or cultural practice.
This new scenario was calling for a number of new competences to be developed by people who, already without a job or having lost the job because of the crisis, had to rethink themselves and the group of competences they needed in order to re-enter the job market or start a business on their own (spirit of initiative, resilience, communication and capacity to present themselves, management of uncertainty, risk and crisis management). At the same time, most of these competences (Social skills – impersonation, cooperative skills, teamwork, self-confidence and public performance, reading body language; Entrepreneurial skills – problem-solving, project planning, engineering of a piece, initiative, drive, creativity; Analytical skills – contextual and societal analysis, Leadership skills – empathy, mobilising others, motivation, Intercultural communication – the educational methods employed in drama are by nature inclusive and allowing everyone to take part regardless of individual disposition) could be developed and boosted by practising theatre activities.
Objectives
Therefore, “EntreTeather” project aims to develop entrepreneurial competences of adult unemployed people.
This is based on the theatre and entrepreneurship educational methodologies and latest research developed by the project partners, 7 organizations from Sweden, Italy, Ireland, Romania, Denmark, Spain, who have expertise in the fields of performing arts, entrepreneurship and adult education.
The objective of the project is to develop an inclusive, engaging and innovative training methodology to provide our target group of adult unemployed people with entrepreneurial skills to help them to reactivate their career either as freelancers or to gain action in their future employment thus supporting their inclusion in the job market.
The project theatre training activities will promote:
1. Empowerment
2. Autonomy
3. Resilience
and a number of other competences mapped against EntreComp Framework
Outputs
Project partners will first conduct a skills assessment framework in order to design the most appropriate theatre training methodology that is responsive to the target group’s needs (within the development of IO1). Finally, “EntreTeather” training methodology will be piloted in all partner countries (with IO2).
Two facilitators from each partner country will be trained during a joint staff event in using the tools and pedagogical principles in order to deliver pilot sessions back in his/her country of origin. Pilot sessions will enable the methodology to be tested by gathering quantitative and qualitative feedback from the target group.
Pilot groups will include a total of 70 participants (as following the recommendation from theatre and performance experts groups should be made of 10- 16 participants)
At local, regional, national and European/international levels, “EntreTeather” will encourage a dialogue between business organisations and creative/art organisations. The project will thereby contribute to new methodologies to boost entrepreneurship education and employability. A minimum of 140 organizations will be informed about the methodologies developed by the project.
In order to increase the reach and transferability of the project, the partnership will develop a handbook based on all research results, experiences and feedback gained throughout the project. It will contain all tools and exercises needed to build entrepreneurial skills through theatre and practical drama techniques aimed at adult unemployed people as well as intermediaries (employment agencies, chamber of commerce, adult education providers)(IO3).
Impact
The impact of the project is therefore twofold:
– adult unemployed people will be given the opportunity to build their entrepreneurial skills through theatre,
– theatre companies and other arts organizations will be provided with all materials they would need to deliver the methodology.
