Project Summary

The aim of the “EU Street Project Digital” is to develop ways for European musicians to cooperate internationally via the internet in order to record and compose music. In the project, groups of young musicians from Iceland, Germany and Spain, seek to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and the opportunities that distance-composing or composing over the internet has to offer. As the world becomes increasingly “smaller” the technological world of creating music together without being in the same space becomes an essential skill. As young musicians are increasingly becoming aware of but the know-how is limited, as are equipment’s and tools that allow for such international cooperation. The project encourages the participants to be innovative, think outside the box and familiarise themselves with modern computer technology within the field of playing and recording music without being in the same place at the same time. It encourages international collaboration and offers advancements and sharing of traditions and developments within this sub-field of music in each of the three participating countries. Meanwhile, the project contributes to the formation of a social network between young musicians of Europe between young musicians that share the same passion for developing this field further. It also shares flow of information of best-practises within this field as different countries have different approaches and traditions within this field. In the project, participants also get acquainted with various types of musical genres and increase their competence to pursue their carriers accordingly to the technological advances of the 21st century. The Participants all have a different background with respect to culture, former studies and musical genre which greatly boosts the diversity of the group. Because of that, the group’s creative work obtains cultural nuances as well as the various traditions of using technology for creating and processing music in each country. At last, the group comes together in Iceland to record the results of the cooperation and to produce a short film in which the participants talk about the many opportunities and obstacles of the international cooperation of song writing and recording and efforts to overcome the hindrances. Several means of dissemination of the results will be used, but above all by the making of a short film which will be uploaded on Youtube so that other European musicians of all age and genre can learn from the project’s lessons learnt.
