Project Summary
South East Africa, a region where artistic talent is abundant, a creative industry with huge potential but a lack in technical and professional capacity to develop and become sustainable. With the aim of strengthening the standing of youth who are to shape the creative economy, this project undertakes to strengthen and build capacity among them in areas of the music value chain in Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, such as audio engineering, cultural management, Instrument build & repair, and music training as means of earning an income.Based on the needs and gaps revealed through evaluation of previous projects’ results, the EASCCTY project builds on the foundations laid by the previous EU funded project. It sets out to implement revised methodologies, new subjects and advanced topics, including a new focus on practical, hands on approach to training, ensuring a much more effective and long-lasting impact to beneficiaries; Models of employability and an active inclusion of stakeholders to promote and support the development of the creative economy, fostering local and international collaborations with the aim at the creation of jobs in the region.Over 90 talented local youth workers and international trainers from 8 countries, will come together via 2 mobility activities to collaborate and work on obtaining technical skills in need of strengthening, followed by 2 capacity building trainings for 60 teacher trainees on new instruments and advanced areas of innovative teaching techniques.New curricula and training manuals to bridge the gap between non-formal and formal education, will be developed with the participants, enabling the continuation of training material production after the scope of this project.Together with 20 video tutorials to be uploaded on YouTube free for all worldwide, the dissemination on local level involves stakeholders like schools, benefiting from the materials developed, and serving as a step in for trainees under this project to obtain employment as trainers, multiplying the outreach drastically. The project builds-in practical work experience for the trained youth workers, for example with the running of 2 large concerts for over 2000 people and 24 monitored peer to peer workshops. Each participant trained by this project will go on to train further 10 people, having a snowball effect reaching beyond 1500 trainees, which will kick start entrepreneurship among young people in the industry, leading to the creation of jobs as capacity and professionalism is increased. At international Level the project has access to a worldwide network through Jeunesses Musicales, the largest youth musical network. Where project results and resources will also be disseminated through, allowing for an outreach to over 80000 people in the first 2 years.Showcasing competitive-quality goods from the creative industry in Africa, fostering collaboration and trade between Europe and Africa rather than aid. Allowing for sustainable growth.
